MkII Main Dial Problem on 2 Cameras- Please Test

I received my 1D M2 last weekfrom Ritz Camera. I have two issues
with the Main Dial.

1. The Main Dial Lock does not work. I am able to access all
functions with the lock on.
If I turn the thumbweel button to the off position, I can still access menu functions with the wheel, but it no longer sets the aperture, shutter speed, or exposure compensation in shooting mode. This is probably how it was designed to work.
2. I am unable to select a second memory card. The camera
recognizes both cards but when I press the appropriate buttons and
turn the Main Dial... nothing happens.
I don't have an SD card yet to test... Guess I should pick up a cheap one and give it a try.

It's disheartening to read of these stories. I'm lucky in that the thumbwheel on my 1D2 seems to work fine; I've tried the tests discussed here and it doesn't skip.

My AF, on the other hand, is less than spectacular, especially in low light. I wish I still had my 10D as a basis for comparison; I would swear the 10D actually locked focus faster and more often in low light than my 1D2. But who knows.... memory is deceptive.

You have to be on the correct display screen to switch cards, push the display button and rotate the thumbwheel until the folder list screen comes up then you can switch cards with the zoom/card switch button and thumbwheel.
2. I am unable to select a second memory card. The camera
recognizes both cards but when I press the appropriate buttons and
turn the Main Dial... nothing happens.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks Wayne! After successfully changing cards following your instructions I looked at the manual -- I felt like a dummy.

Please could you tell us how to check "the intermittent AF point dimming on two points and 2-3 stop overexposure when those points were selected".

Thanks a lot
Earlier I made two posts in reference to the first 1D MKII I
recieved two weeks ago. The major issue with that camera was
intermittent AF point dimming on two points and 2-3 stop
overexposure when those points were selected. A second problem
with the camera was less serious but annoying (although potentially
very serious): there were two points on the main command dial, 180
degrees from each other, where the dial would "double step". That
is, when scrolling through photos, it would skip a photo in the
sequence (from 17 to 19, for instance). It would do it while dial
Exp compensation, or during any function of the main dial, as long
as either one of the two points was being selected. I put a small
sticker on the dial to indicate where the points were, and
consistency was the rule.

After getting my second MkII, I quickly looked it over, and
thankfully there is not a problem with the exposure or AF points
(yet). But the second body has the exact same problem with the
main command dial. I hesitate to bother Calumet again (especially
since they have people waiting in line), but I want a product that
works right. Getting two cameras with identical problems leads me
to think the problem is widespread. Anyone else notice this? If
it is widespread, I think we need to demand a fix as this already
has led to inaccurate deletions, settings, menu selections, etc.
for me.

If you have a MkII, please quickly test this by slowly scrolling
through a set of photos on the camera and see if it skips as I
described, and let us know. As it doesn't directly affect image
quality, it isn't hugely important, but it does have disastrous
possibilities (esp. when selecting critical functions like format,
delete, etc.)

I remember when you posted this the first time and I hadn't noticed my camera doing it. Now, I recognize that my camera does do this intermittently. I notice it mostly when scrolling through pictures and instead of a picture coming up I get a blurry version of the picture with 'BUSY' text for a split second before it goes to the next picture. It acts as if I scrolled two clicks in rapid succession..

I've just learned to deal with it so far and it hasn't caused any big problems.
