Hi All,

I really, really like the elasticity of Fv mode on newer Canon cameras.

Simply I can't understand why minimal shutter time set in ISO settings affects only Av mode and not the Fv. It makes using Fv mode quite difficult is selected scenarios - especially when its programmed into Cx preset, where it's not possible to easily reprogram the preset to Av leaving all other settings intact.

Anyone has any workaround for that?

Best regs,

I think it's part of the elasticity of Fv mode and the ease of monitoring shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and ISO in that mode. I generally use it as a sort of super Av + AUTO ISO mode, but with stabilised lenses I often find myself setting the ISO to a lower value than the camera does in low light, just in order to take advantage of the image stabilisation. There again, my minimum shutter speed is 30 seconds.
Yep, I really like the flexibility of Fv mode, but it would be really beneficial if when shutter speed is on auto (and probably ISO also) there is a way to set minimal value for shutter - excaclty as in Av mode.

I think Fv always uses 1/focal length as the minimum shutter speed when shutter speed and ISO are on Auto (until ISO reaches maximum, at which point it will allow shutter speed to drop). As you say, Fv mode ignores the Auto ISO minimum shutter speed setting for some reason.

If your aim is to raise the minimum shutter speed above 1/FL in Fv mode with auto SS, auto ISO, you can do it using the 'Set shutter speed range' custom function (Custom function menu 2 on the R5 original). This setting is remembered by C1, C2, C3 modes, so you could register a minimum of, say, 1/250s and Fv to C1, but leave it unrestricted in standard Fv, and jump between them by changing from Fv to C1 modes.

Hope I understood you correctly.

Oh man! Thanks.

That's what I was looking for exactly. Somehow I managed to forget about that custom function and didn't know that its registered separately for each C mode.

It solves my problem perfectly. I need that is some cases when making shoots of moving subjects when the 1/F is not enough.

Thx! Paweł.

Ah great. Yes I don't think it's a very widely used feature so most people forget about it. Hope it solves your problem.
