Well first and second place could not host the challenge so it look like I am up again. This theme will be action shots. The shots can be of humans, birds, mamals, etc. They can be sports shots, X game wannabe shots or just shots of people or animals having a good time. The key is the action.

The Challenge will close next Thrusday, February 23rd at 8 PM New York Time.

Standard Rules
The host gives you a topic of interest. You post a maximum of three images.
Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera.

You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera and lens
along with your photo (because we like to know).

Feel free to comment on other contestant’s images. If you want people to give you constructive criticism,
ask for C&C.

The host chooses the winner. The host's decision is final. The host is not eligible.

The winner then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner, and passes on the baton to that person. The

winner has 48 hours to post the new challenge. If that doesn't happen 2nd place has 24 hours to do so, and
if that doesn't happen it's up to the 3rd place winner.
Posting Guidelines

When posting your picture, change the Subject of your post to display your picture titles. This way, when

someone comments (i.e. replies), it will refer specifically to you. If all entries read "Re: * Mini-
Challenge xxx * …" it would be very boring to scan the list.

Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most

people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).

You may enter up to 3 pictures, but try to put them within a single post. Please give a title to each photo
• this makes it easier to differentiate when giving comments.

Please size your photo no bigger than around 1200 pixels on the longest dimension.
This is to let those with smaller monitors to see your image at full resolution.
Please limit the file size of your entries to conserve bandwidth.

As a show of courtesy, and to save bandwidth, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't
bring back any previous photos.

I have neither the skill nor the gear to compete in this one...good luck to all in what I'm sure will be a challenge filled with tons o' birds in flight.. and we'll see you for the next one..

Three from Richard:

C'mon you don't need special gear for it: this is taken with mean 3MP superzoom. I know, the IQ is not stellar, but action is present, no doubt :-) Better, than bring the sand into lens and body like I did last year at the same beach :-(

(Good point with BIF)

My first entry

A friend of mine with his dog in the park :)

Many pros shoot action shots with compact P&S cameras. It is a little hard to handle a large DSLR when you are hanging off a cliff or to ski down a double black diamond with one to get to a specific jump site. Skydiver photographers mount them to their helmets.

You are a great photographer. Your camera will take the shots just fine and I expect some great ones from you.

I would like to see all of the guys and gals with young children or grandchildren step up to the plate as well on this one. Children are all action all the time

Getting the muzzle loaders ready for hunting season last year. Still don't know how I managed to catch the fire ball! :-)

I don't know what you're talking about. Just looking at your gallery and I saw more than half a dozen action shots.

My personal favorite is the one looking up at the balloon as the flame fills it with hot air and it's lifting off the ground. That one is sweet! And it's action. At least in my book. Plus you have a bunch of slow shutter light shots.

You actually have some pretty cool action stuff there. Throw a couple in.

I double dog dare you!!!

but still action in building a nest in an old dead tree.

You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take!!

While shooting the moon eclipse of Dec 10, 2011, 2 objects appeared (upper right) in one shot that were not in the shots 1/2 min before or after. There are...unidentified...flying...objects.

Beautiful set! Your seals are always amazing. Love all the action in that last one!!

Great challenge idea. I am looking forward to seeing all the entries.

and since 95% of my subjects are under the age of 3 I had plenty of action shots to choose from ... of course most of them are not very contest worthy.
Here are my 3.

The last one is technically not that great ( motion blur even at 1/640 shutter) but I had to share cause it was such a lucky shot. It shows two blue footed boobies fighting over a fish. The one of the right dove in the water and caught it just as its scavenger cousin sneaked up and stole it...and then I took the shot.
