I am sure that this probably has been answered one hundred times before, but I can't get around the unwieldly search system. So, I am rather new to dSLR and as such, the challenges are a fun motivation for me to get out there and do a photograph for the challenge. My first one was SOOP, and it went alright.

Next, I planned to participate in the HDR challenge. But, by the time I had my photo, the contest was full...

and so was the "famous european monuments"...

and so was the "leaves"..

and the "hats"..

What's up with the limit on the number of entries? this is a huge community, so a limit of 100/200 pictures is obviously not cutting it.

The host besides how many entries will allowed. BUT, if it gets full midway through the week of the submission phase, write the host and ask if they extend the number of entries allowed.
As a Host, I have done this a few times already.

Hopefully, the Host has a public Email. If not...Maybe a request in this forum may get a response from the host.

The challenges are announced in advance of the submission dates, so there is time to plan...best to enter early. 200 entries is actually too many to vote on if you are going to take your time, study the enlarged image and vote fairly. However, many challenges allow more than a single entry per entrant. To be fair, this should be limited to a single and entry and you should make it your beast.

I know this can be frustrating: I've had it happen myself (in fact, I barely got my "Abandoned Places" entry in before it filled up.)

But, it's really just the opposite for the most part: challenges are too big. There have been a great many complaints about challenges having too many entries for people to vote satisfactorily.

As mentioned, there is a week between announcement and submission, so plan accordingly.

My particular series emphasizes doing more than just perusing old photos to decide if one fits (which is what a lot of people do). I feel certain challenges should be just that: a challenge to people to go out and take a photo that expresses the theme, not just sit at a computer and pick "winners" from old collections. I've tried to come up with themes that will require more careful consideration by having a relatively narrow theme/concept. The more "populist" a theme (such as "leaves") the more likely a challenge is to fill up quickly. Come up with an esoteric theme, or that has a capture date requirement, and there will be far fewer entries.

I've pretty much stopped entering old images myself: I look at the challenge list regularly for new listings, and any I find of interest I set about taking photos to fit the theme. Sometimes I even take ones I think are worth entering! ;-)

Some people operate cameras. Others use them to create images. There is a difference.
