Manual Focus

I am finding it is taking me a little while to get used to the manual focusing on the F707...

If you are taking images of landscapes with nothing in the foreground should you just put the focus to infinity?

If you were at say a party and you were just taking candid shots would you usually have to move the manual focus ring much between shots?

Any hints on how to focus quicker woudl be appreciated.

I guess the answer may well be practise

I still stuff a few manual focus shots when in a hurry. I also find the EVF better for manual focus shots.

Yes.

If you were at say a party and you were just taking candid shots
would you usually have to move the manual focus ring much between
shots?

That would depend on the aperture you are using and the ranges involved, not easy to answer without more detail, but I expect, probably you would be needing to make adjustments so auto focus may be the way to go. In most situations auto focus will be faster than manual - unless you just want to go straight to infinity.

I would appreciate them too - I suspect there aren't any that will allow super fast focusing though.

I find that even with all the problems with autofocus on the 707 (lag, inaccuracy, etc) it's still better than my eyesight (most of the time) and still faster to acquire focus than I could manually in time-sensitive situations.

I would go one step further: I find the manual focus of the F-707 not usuable at all. Check for yourself: Put the camera on a tripod and manual focus it on a middle-distance object. Read the distance on the scale. Now focus again on the very same subject. Let me know if you read the same distance...
