Macro problem in 750

No matter what I do (i'm using the manual) I can't get the camera to go back to MACRO from SUPERMACRO. I can get the MACRO icon using the spot macro button but it won't switch back. what am I doing wrong?

Not sure if I'm reading this right but......Did you turn supermacro off within the camera menu setting? Then normal macro is able to be used.

The supermacro shows off in the camera setting. How do I use the Macro when the Supermacro is the only macro icon that shows (off). I think both used to show with a choice?

5 minutes later the camera will not produce a menu or anything and won't turn off! What's going on?

I had to remove the batteries to turn off the camera. I still can't get normal macro. It's being returned tomorrow. I'm glad that I bought it locally. Very disappointing. i'm not sure if I'll accept another new one in exchange, go for the difference on a 5050 or forget it all and get a refund and start over.

When the batteries are going flat (can happen instantly with rechargeable) the camera will go dead. Sometimes removing and then reinserting the batteries can 'unlock' the camera for a few more minutes before the batteries run out of juice completely.

On the MACRO issue I'm unsure exactly what you mean:

The SUPERMACRO option sets the lens at a fixed setting which allows you to focus as low as 3cm. At this setting you cannot 'zoom' the lens.

If the SUPERMACRO setting is OFF then the lens is at normal setting and can focus up to 7cm form the lens. The MACRO/SPOT button at the top of the camera only helps the camera to speed up focusing by limiting the focus range to the narrow setting. It does not actually change tthe lens settings. The lens will always focus to this distance, its just speed enhancement for autofocus.

Can you explain in a bit more detail what you mean when you say ' it wont switch back'

I recently had exactly the same experience with a new C-740. When using certain functions the camera would sometimes 'lock up' freeze like a pc crashing. Nothing would turn off or function. 2 or 3 other occasions the red light indicating writing to card, kept flashing continually.

The only way to turn the camera off for these events, was to release the battery lid. Batteries were ok/not discharged at the time so far as recall.

I just put it down to bad luck with that particular one I bought. It was going back to dealer anyway, to await arrival of C-750.
Mmm, wondering about that now.

I also found worse electronic problems with a couple of Dimage 7i models.

The batteries are Maha 2200 mah and had only taken about 16 pics. I never even charged or used the Olympus batteries.

They do not need replacement. As for the macro. I seem to recall that the menu showed a separate icon for macro and smacro when I first tried to use it. When I turned Smacro to off there was no other macro icon. I was in the process of trying to find the macro icon on the Camera list when it froze with some faint light on the LCD and the lens extended.

hello Floyd,

seems this is a software issue. I already had four digicams, and every one locked up sometimes. Digicams are like minicomputers and mostly you can fix this by a reboot (removal of the batteries.) If it turns out to be a real problem it will probably be fixed by a firmware update. I would'd give it back immediately for this reason. As long you have warranty, you have the right to get the camera fixed or updated.

It was exchanged this morning w/o problem. I have a new 750. The store is sending the old one to Olympus. Hopefully the new one will perform as it's supposed to.
