M240 revisited

Thank you for the kind reply and please understand that I am an amateur, not more.

A raw is always the starting and when I use jpegs I let the camera do the conversion based on some parameters that I can optimize to a certain point. Even if I were to convert the RAW myself I would still need a piece of software on a computer (or in camera in some cases). But in doing so I do manipulate the image and cook it to my taste. RAW shooters say they have more malleable files and can do more with them, which is true.

So when you say these are jpegs from RAW without PP, how did you get the jpegs?

Please understand I ask because I am not a PP expert and because you are an expert and talented photographer.

Thank you,

Mattia

How can you refute someone's opinion? Irakly said that people who like using rangefinders were liars. He wasn't arguing, nor was anyone in this thread, that rangefinders were best. Had that been the conversation, this essay would have made sense.

Strawman from someone who refused to admit they were wrong.

The issue is calling people liars - a thing Irakly can know nothing of.

Really? For what kind of work? Apparently, you know more about professional photography than I do. Teach me wisdom :)

I just load RAW files in Lightroom and export them as small JPEGs for the web: 1600 points wide, 72 dpi, 75% quality.

What can I tell you? If you cannot take a joke, take a hike. Who in a right mind would think that I could call about a million people liars and meant it?

You are aware that the M240 has had the exact same color profile since the first version 2.x firmware was released in September-October of 2013? When I purchased my M240 new in October 2013 the first thing I did was to update it to the latest 2.x firmware, and I've never really had a skintone issue at all, except in rare cases where the camera can render skintones a bit reddish due to IR contamination. I've personally delt with this by using a SpydrCheckr48 and color calibrated all my lenses for daylight use. I always apply these color profiles in LR after importing images.
Yes I am. Adobe profile is indeed much better than the embedded. Embedded profile magenta bias is a problem that started with DMR and carried over in its intact form all the way to M240 :)
In regards to colors and skintones - nothing has happened or changed in the last 2 1/2 years for the M240.
It was not just skin tones. I could not pinpoint the problem, most likely it was something about white balance. Colors were inconsistent. I had to work on every picture for like 20 minutes to get the color right, while with M9 it was just a matter of setting white balance in LR. Now AWB in M240 is actually better than M9.
Maybe you used the Embedded profile in LR on your earlier test? Always use the "Adobe" profile as a base. The Embedded profile has wonky colors - especially the reds are way off.

Hi,

I liked the M9, bought the M240, missed the M9 because I remembered better colors, then rebought a M9. Shot the both for a while just to find out that I could not see a clear winner in regards of colors, even though overall I found the M240 to deliver more consistent in all kinds of light. Sold the M9 again.

So IMO nothing wrong with M240 color.

Best,Tom

Lol, you would know better, I never had an MP :)

What I meant was that I know what is going on in advertising photography as to what equipment used, etc. Leica M is not a system of choice for the most part. One of the reasons was widespread opinion of color inconsistency, which is, in my view, now debunked.

That's what I think now too. Great camera in all respects.

So, this is what you are trying to get out of me? Well, I'll tell you, calling me an imbecile on my own school blog isn't the greatest way to get what you want. Not that I am offended, more like amused with fabulously uncommon turns of your logic :)
