LX3 Question

I just bought a lx3 today on ebay, was reading this thread, quite interesting, as I have a 46mm nikon wide adapter I think its called a wce 42 or somthing, anyway it fits on my ricoh gx100 and im figuring it will fit on the lx3 with an adapter tube, its not like the quality of the original lens but good for quirky shots. I also have a leica d-lux 3.

Im hoping to update the firmware on the lx3 when it arrives so I can also use the +- 3 ev autobracket for hdr. best wishes...paul

ps the wide adapter gives a 19mm equivalent field of view on the 24mm gx100 lens.

Well apart from using a couple of bits of blue tac to hold it on, theres no way on earth this adapter tube will screw on the front of my LX3 so it looks like I"ll have to bite the bullet and pay full price for a "proper" Panasonic tube,,

Thanks for all the replies, rolandb

Sounds like this might be a manufacturing defect. Perhaps it's an adapter tube intended for an LX5, but has LX3 markings on it, by mistake.

Also; there are a couple of '46mm' adapters intended for other makes of camera; these may not fit, either. An adapter tube for the LX3 should say 'lX3' on it; likewise with LX5.

Thanks for the reply,, yes I was turning it the right way, I think it may have been because I don"t think the lens ring has ever been taken off and was very stiff being the 1st time,, all OK now.

Thanks again,, rolandb
Just be careful when re-attaching anything to those threads for they are plastic, not metal... Mine cracked from excessive attaching & removal of the Ricoh Lc1 self-retaining lenscap prior to the 3rd-party screw-on becoming available & in general plastic threads are easily cross-threaded when metal filters or adapters are hastily\improperly screwed on.. Be Careful!

Francis,, Luc has it spot on,,

Luc, thanks for the photo, nice to see just what it will look like fitted, I want it for the reasons you gave,, to fit some filters to the camera for my landscape work..

Thanks again, rolandb
Ebay is filthy with 52mm tubes for the lx3 instead of the stock 46mm tube so you can directly screw the more common 52mm threaded filters etc. to an Lx3 with some room to stack before vig... Then you can use step-ups from there to use even larger diameter filters etc. with no threat of vig although I do get vig using a 52-55mm step-up and the 55mm LW55 WA adapter that's for the Fz30\50. I have a feeling there would be no vig with that WA adapter if there were a 55mm tube made for the Lx3 but I haven't found one of those yet...

EBay's filthy with both 46mm & 52mm good quality (metal) extension tubes @ half the price of the official Panny tube. but beware there are plenty of plastics to avoid also on ebay. The only inconvenience being a possible month or more wait for them to arrive from China although that is not always the case neither... I have gotten some things from China in just a week too... Or you can get Bower 52mm metal tubes from Adorama too.. I got one of those included with a 52mm Optika .45x WA converter, for my Lx3...

If you're going to use the NIKON WE68 wide conversion lens, you need to use the Panasonic adapter tube, 46mm both ends. Now there are 46mm straight adapters on Amazon, that say Panasonic, etc. But I wonder if some might be a cheap knock-off, and maybe some are oversized.
