Help please!

All the cameras I have owned the first thing I do is to buy a uv filter
to protect the lens.
Can I do this with my new and totally wonderful LX3?
If so where can i get them from?
What thread does the LX3 have?

Many thanks

Phil

Phil,

To mount filters or accessories the LX3 needs to be fitted with an adapter tube. The factory model is DMC-LA4 which is a 45mm to 46mm adapter. The Panny 18mm wide angle aux lens is 46mm. There are three prime makes of aftermarket tubes: Lensmate, Pandabase, and For (Guangzhou Stppo brand). These are in two flavors: 45 to 46mm and 45 to 52mm. The later because 52mm is a more common size for filters, etc.

Here is a snap of my setup which includes the For 45 to 52mm adapter, filters, and third party aux lenses. BTW instead of a UV filter I'm using a Marumi 52mm Super DHG Protect Filter.

My PansaBase (45-52mm), I chose for the flare starting almost immediately at the base, for a cleaner line & 52mm because I don't have & am not getting anything so small to screw to it... (expand or scroll to the right)

A stepring to 55 or 58mm or more will suffice for using filters etc. that I already use on my FZ50 & c8080wz.... I chose the tube w/shade because I doubt I'll be using a protector filter... The Pandabase can be had with or without the shade or other Wcon & Tcons indivudually or in package deals, on EBay.. Took a mere week to get to the States from H/K...

Depending on how new your Oly stuff is.. The FL50 (non-r) is fully TTL compatible less the flashes focus assist beam:

It's a bit of a load though.... With appropriate steprings the Oly Wcons also can work:

but they're a tad soft out @ the edges & there's slight vig: (Wcon07)

I'm choosing to accept them as they are since I refuse to get with the over-priced Panny program or "System" approach....
PS:

Punch DMC-LX3 into an EBay search field & most of what's available for it will show up in 3 or 4 pages....

Hi Bob

Got a bit intrigued by the picture of all your LX3 goodies. Does your remote control has a manufacture's name or is it like (presumably) the flashy colourjob homemade?
Peter

When I first saw the picture of your bronzish gold LX3 I assumed this was a Photoshop (or some kind of image editor) trick, not the real color of your gear. But now I'm not sure! What's the story? And if you did change the color, how did you do it? (Sorry if this was addressed elsewhere.)

At first, I thought the same thing - WOW, a great new (or custom) Gold LX3!!!

On second look - I'd say it's a Black LX3 - looking different because of the lighting.

Best.

Peter,

I think by remote control you mean the manual mechanical shutter release. It's an Adorama Super Pro cable release that couples to the LX3 with Richard Franiec's custom release adapter.

Sorry for the delay in responding.... My LX3 is a black model. The picture was taken in a 16"x16"x16" tent with halogen side lights and a large gooseneck overhead with a standard 60w household bulb. I added the bulb after receiving some helpful advice from Bill McClung about the lighting he uses with his DIY tent. I used a FX01 camera to take the picture (PhotoME will show auto WB, F/3.8, 54mm equiv., +0.33EV, ISO 200, normal mode, pattern metering, no flash). No PP which probably would have corrected the color balance.
