Hi, I have the LX15 and recently it keeps shutting down as if the battery has suddenly gone dead, however the battery strength indicator is OK. Sometimes it wont turn back on unless connected to the wall plug. Today it closed with the shutter protector stuck half open/closed. I wondered if this could be signs of a wearing battery (however I own an older TZ80 with no such issues).

Apologies if this is a trodden topic, but I'm new! - Should I buy a new battery??

Thank you all.

It might be the battery, so getting a new one is worth a try. It might also be crud built up on the power contacts. You can clean the contacts within the battery compartment by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser. The contacts on the battery itself are recessed and harder to reach with an eraser, but they might not need any cleaning if they appear shiny and gold. Good luck! The LX15/LX10 is a great camera and worth fixing.

camera and battery contact are spotless! Battery looks fine, but not sure if that is relevant.

OK, I ended up getting a new battery. Just put it in tonight but so far so good. I suspect it was simply a battery issue. Indeed it did "spin" (the old one) which I understand can be a sign of a poorly battery.

Spin meaning that the side walls of the battery have expanded out? If so that is definitely the sign of a Li-Ion battery at the end of its life.

Thanks for following up!
