Very interesting... Wonder what the “new” GPU acceleration feature will bring performance wise. My understanding was Lightroom only used GPU acceleration in Develop before, but the way she explains it, it seems it was actually only used to accelerate the display of images in develop - not doing the actual calculations when applying edits.....

And still no "Camera Matching" profiles for the following "new" Canon cameras:

SX70 HS
EOS RP
EOS SL3 (250d)
G5 X Mark II
G7 X Mark III

Seems like Adobe has now abandoned Canon Camera Matching profiles for new cameras (from SX70 HS released last year) without any notice.

(Camera Matching profiles are: Camera Standard, Camera Landscape, Camera Portrait, Camera Faithful, Camera Neutral)

My first impressions are good. I have a fairly fast pc, so I had no real issues before. But my impression now is that LR 8.4 is a bit quicker than it was.
I have a lot of new vacation photos to go though in the next few days, so I'll really test it out soon.

Can you let us know what size your monitor is (in pixels, not inches) and what GPU you have installed, and how large (in megapixels) are the images you are working with?

Thanks, interesting to know you are seeing fast performance even though you don't have a 4K monitor.

Are you shooting RAW ? Camera Matching profiles are not available for JPG.

Yes, I am talking about RAW, of course. (I thought that was obvious. 😀 )

Interesting. I am currently on the new I5 Surface Pro, which handeled LR okay‘ish until the update. Now it is just terrible. Everything is lagging and the Surface feels like an old machine.

Why manufacturers don't simply give users such camera matching profiles now that they can be made in Ps and used in Lr quite easily is beyond me. I'd much rather have that than most of the crap software they provide. Every photo blogger and IG photographer can seem to churn out profiles for fun and profit and you'd think the camera sellers would notice that maybe their users use them. Just another reason they are clueless I guess.

Try disabling GPU acceleration. The Built-in Intel GPU is CRAP at OpenGL/CL and as such is much slower that your processor when it turbo’s to about 3Ghz. My guess is the update enabled full GPU acceleration, and without a proper GPU that could have the adverse effect.

I tried it on my PC this evening, and it has definitely brought a more responsive develop module. It’s not perfect yet, but the sliders are noticeably more interactive and thus increases the speed and develop experience

I7-7700K, 16Gb RAM
GTX 1070ti

2 x 4K displays - one as image picker while the other is in develop.

Wow, very happy with this update. Everything seems to be running so much quicker. Honestly I could not fault the speed. Library and develop. Running a MacBook Pro with Radeon Pro 560, from memory.

The non-appearance of camera matching profiles is very concerning, mind you. I wonder is it just these few Canon cameras that they have not released camera matching profiles or has Adobe stopped doing that altogether? The latter wold be devastating and would probably mean a very painful break up for me and Adobe. Hopefully Adobe has or will give some comfort in that regard.

PowerShot G7 X Mark III

Some of these cameras weren't mentioned in the summary at the top of the page, but they are in the full list.

I have the same graphics card. Does yours show a check mark in the image processing part?

“Support” does not mean that Camera Matching profiles exist for these cameras. You should try it for yourself and you will see. (You can find Raw files from most of these cameras in sample galleries on this site.)

I just updated LR and tried the new software. I am running on a 4K 32" BenQ SW320 display with an Nvidia RTX 2070. I have a folder of D850 images taken last weekend. Culling photos seems very fast compared to the previous version. Am I correct that this task should be faster in the new version? I did not import the images with the embedded preview.

The Surface Pro just has relative weak Intel integrated graphics, not a GPU by any reasonable definition. If LR actually enabled GPU support it may not be useful at all.

Try turning it off to see if that get things back to normal.
