Apologies if this is a repost, but I haven't come across this before or seen it posted.

It appears as though a third party software company released a plugin for Lightroom 3 back in 2010 that seems to have gone un-noticed, at least by me until tonight.

It allows you to use the Lightoom control interface with Sony DSLR's. I downloaded the demo and it seems to work as expected, but has a HUGE watermark overlay across the screen. Will likely be purchasing a copy when I get some funds in my bank, but was wondering if anyone had already bought the full version?

I bought it for my a700, works nicely.

Actually the major reason I haven't bought the a77 is the lack of tethering support. For Canon there are even Android apps so you can control the camera with a tablet!

What camera are you planning to use with it?
I have an a700 which I still use for certain assignments, mainly product shots as I currently use the long winded lightroom watched folder work around to see the shots on screen ensuring I have the shots I need before continuing.

Yeah, I am still dissapointed the a77 doesn't have tethering support myself, it was one of the things I was counting on being there.

I don't know if you are aware, but that company now has an android app to tether shoot directly to Tablets now as well. Impressive company that seems to be catering to our needs a little better than Sony do at the moment.

You can shoot tethered with Lightroom and Sony Remote Control software, no need to buy 3rd party plugins.
Not directly through Lightroom you can't. Sure, you can tether with SRC and then import using a watched folder, but that's a crappy workaround.

I'm sorry, what is the Sony Remote Control software?

Is this something that came with my camera? Never installed anything from the CD in the box.

Any plans for the A77? How about iOS?
SLT and NEX main priority for us. The problem is absent of tethered capture capabilities at this moment. We are trying to find a way. No luck yet.

We cannot support iOS due to Apple politic. The support itself is possible but not an official way.

Depends what camera you have, IIRC it is on CD that came with A700, A850 and A900.

Probably better idea is to download it from Sony ( more recent version ).

Minor irritation is that you have to install Sony Image Data Suite even you dont use it.

No need to manually import anything.

It works and it's free so I would suggest to try it first, if it does not work like you want to then buy 3rd party plugin.

Just came into my mind that you may mean non direct tethered control from android device. We also have a software to control camera tethered to PC or Mac from iPhone and Android. My previous posts was only about direct tethered capture into Android tablet.

Never claimed that you did have to manually import anything, I'm just making sure it's clear that you CANNOT tethered capture directly through Lightroom with Sony's software.

I HAVE done what you suggest and it just isn't a good solution. I own the plug-in we're discussing because of that.

We must be talking different things bc I have used Lightroom several times with SRC to shoot tethered my A850.

Current issue for third parties is that the current crop of SLT cameras do not even support the ability to "send" the image from the USB port, so no third party software can "pick it up" from the camera. Sony has to fix this.

Only my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary! ;-}

I went ahead and bought the a77, replacing my old a100, but am still irritated that they did not include the tether capability on it and can find no reason why they did not. I think they are holding out to give that capability only to their FF SLTs when they are introduced. They don't listen. At 70 I don't need or want FF because of the weight and size, just as I got the Sigma 50-150mm 2.8 lens, rather than the big and heavy 70-200mm 2.8. Shooting a lot in the studio with the Zeiss 16-80mm, the tethering would be really helpful to me.

I hate to say this, but I think that the point of view of the product managers at Sony seems to be that of the point and shoot automatically photographer. Add lack of tethering capability to useless exposure bracketing in everything except the A77. No PC connector in anything except the A77. These capabilities are covered nicely in even mid level Canon, Nikon, and Pentax cameras. Even Sigma and Olympus! But perhaps they really don't care whether Professionals or high level hobbyists use their cameras. There aren't all that many of us, and even if we bought their cameras, it wouldn't add much to the bottom line.
