I should have been in the Caribbean on holiday right now but never mind. The above photograph was from last year's holiday in St Lucia as was this somewhat minimalist photograph of a purple-throated carib hummingbird.

Lovely shots, I enjoyed St. Lucia when I went there but never managed a shot of the Purple-throated Carib, just the Green-throated Carib. TFS

Great shots David
Thank you Gautam.

Thank you Kevin. Chasing the two varieties of caribs and the Antillean crested hummingbirds with my camera keeps me out of mischief on my visits to St Lucia. The purple-throated is one of the prettiest birds I have seen. The tiny Antillean cresteds have proved to be quite photogenic.

I agree, the Antillean crested Hummingbird is a beautiful bird. Not wishing to hijack your post I managed to get the Antillean crested Hummingbird in Barbados just after the 1st hurricane they had had in 52 years. Don't know how the little things survive.

You hijack away Kevin, I have no problem with that at all. That is a beautiful shot.

As well as photographing I also watch them. All the varieties are feisty little birds, I have seen quite a bit of territorial nastiness going on between them and, as with our robins fighting, the outcome can be fatal.
