Is it worth the wait?

Hi guys,

I'm about to upgrade from my a330 and was wondering if I should wait for a77ii or just buy the a99?

Also, which of the two would be better for taking video? I am looking to use this upgrade and would like to know which is the best.

I mostly take landscapes and sports photos. Thanks for your answers!

The A99 IQ is far better that the current A77, I suspect the A77II will be as good as the A99 and probably better however the A99II will, I suspect, be revolutionary. If you can afford the current A99 I would wait to see the A99II before jumping in.
I am hoping to purchase the a77 II for the continuous auto focus that should help me in the type of videos that I shoot. There are other improvements that I find attractive as well. However, I am going to let the more adventurous be the initial testers. I currently use the a77.

Not one published test of a77II yet, yet alone a production standard camera, so all you can go on are the specs. It seems like the a77II is aimed more at sports than anything else (high stills rate and allegedly superior AF on moving subjects).

I would get the a99. Youi'll never look back.

.

I guess it all depends on what lenses you want to use as you are talking about two different sensor sizes with these two cameras. Both cameras are top of the line Sony for their sensor sizes.

.

Lot of differences between APS-C and Full Frame, including obvious price and crop factor of lenses. To this is a more importance consideration that any differences in those two specific cameras.

save you a fortune in long glass.

Sports? get the a77ii. following this route you don't need to buy teleconverters at all so you can save around 550USD for your G lens. Plus you get 12fps at full res RAW. Even if you settle for a SAL70300G, you get a nice reach with this combo and at 24MP you have plenty to crop.

For landscapes...well I would choose the a99 and ZA 16-35 but Sigma offers some nice UWA zooms for APS-C cameras so again, the a77ii seems like a nice option.

Right now I have an a850 but I'm considering (seriously) getting a a77ii for long reach with my 70-400 g2 because of the crop factor, "improved" ISO and AF and since it's "just" 1199USD it's not prohibitive to get.

If you wait ... and wait ... there will be higher spec cameras.

If you buy now, you can use the camera and enjoy photography!

I upgraded from an A330 to an A77 when it first came out.

And then upgraded to an A99. I upgraded to the A99 so that all the older Minolta lenses I collected would actually have 24mm being a wide angle, and I wanted a little cleaner images around ISO 1600-3200. Without these two issues, the A77 would have been just as good for me (maybe even a little better, with the AF points more spread out).

Knowing the A330 well (I still use it from time to time on my boat) I can tell you even the current A77 is a big step up. How much better the new one is remains to be seen, but the current one will certainly be a bargain. And deciding the A77 vs. A99 you should also consider how much glass you have that's already full frame (for me, it was almost all of it, and a pretty easy choice).

Hovering on the same choice, my Minoltas aren't "G"
but I too would like to be back in easy W.A. land.
Is this glass good enough for FF ?
What would your thoughts on @99 vs @77Mk2 or (sucks hip pocket in) @99Mk2 be ?
