Hello,

I want to buy some filters, however I have different lenses with different filter threads(58mm,62mm,67mm,72mm).What I am wondering is if I buy a packet of step up rings(https://www.kentfaith.co.uk/SKU0800_11-in-1-step-up-ring-set ) could I purchase 72mm filters and then use the 58-62MM,62-67MM,67-72MM step up rings in conjunction with each other to mount the 72mm filter on the 58mm lens, would this cause any problems?

You could, but on a wide-angle lens, the rate at which the contraption grows from a sequence of step-up rings might be too slow to avoid vignetting. Even if vignetting is avoided, what you want to do would put the filter a considerable distance away from the lens, increaing the chance of dirt having an effect at small apertures. If you want a common filter size (i.e. 72mm), better to buy step-up rings that step-up directly from each lens to that common filter size.

One other problem if you use larger filters: you often won't be able to use any manufacturer lens hood which bayonets onto the lens. So you should buy the appropriate type of lenshood (wide-angle, normal, or telephoto) to screw into that larger filter. Some rubber hoods give you some flexibility in that regard, because they can to some degree be folded back, for different lens angles of views

I'm also in that boat. I bought a nice 72mm CPL and a nice 72mm VND and I use it on all of my lenses, doesn't matter if they are 77mm, 72mm, 67mm, 58mm or 52mm

I have two lenses that are way too small, with a 43mm and 46mm filter thread, but I bought a little stack of cheap inexpensive ND filters and a little polarizer in 43mm sizes.

At the cost of those step-up/down rings (less than 10 bucks a pop), I would get one for each size that your lenses have to go to 72mm. That's what I did. That way I avoid any problem regarding potential vignette introduce by the stacking of several rings + a filter.

Getting just one large kit or all step up rings seems like an unnecessary cost optimization if you're only using one size of filters anyway.
