Incredible!!!

Got me a 4GB MuVo today. Followed the directions at
http://www.pcconsultant.com/microdrive.htm and extracted the 4GB
microdrive. Only problem I had was that I could not fully format
the drive connected to my PC (it would error out at 50%). Thought
I was screwed but then I did a format in the D70 and viola! It
formatted and worked fine. Well over 1100 fine jpg pics (the
number is too big to display on the LCD) and around 600 RAW+Jpgs!
I shot both with great results. Transfer speed is fast, can do 9
fine Jpegs in 3 seconds and it only takes a few more seconds to
shoot again. I can do the same with RAW+Jpg but the buffer fills up
at 4 shots. Of course with single shots there is no difference
between the microdrive and a CF card.

Just too cool. Not bad for $200!

If you are wondering I bought it at Wal-Mart in Maryland! It was
the only one left at the Glen Bernie store.

What about transfer rates from camera to PC, is it slow, as fast as CF or what? I assume transfer occurs this way, since no one mentioned any other medium.

Shot 10 shots in a row..continuous before it paused...so to answer your question..its quite acceptable..unless you have to do 100 shots in a row...lol

Just what on earth is a 'lense'?

Just received my D70 and remembered that I'd read somewhere about this mod whilst shopping today.....picked up a Muvo2 4gb for 180ukp in Tottenham Court Road (London).

This worked first time!.... Was worried about the fragile nature of using a diskdrive but then remembered that I have dropped my mp3 players (jukebox1 and ipod) more often than my camera :-)

No need to format in pc, just put it straight into the camera and format. Dont put it into an older camera or it will set it to 2gb and format it to fat rather than fat32. As I have no pc card adapter I had to reformat it in the muvo before the d70 would see the whole 4gb drive again....

ps... Thanks to all of you here for re-awakening my interest in photography .... I can only hope that with practice I will almost half as good as you!

I've tried 4GB MD & my Sandisk 256 Ultra II card & I couldn't tell much of a difference in shooting speed on my D70, but on a friends Sony F828, I found the MD to be a little slower in respnse (both, playback & shooting mode).

fyi, I was shooing NEF+JPG mode, AF-C mode, could easily get 3-4 shots before camera pauses to breath.

Same goes for a camera.

sounds like transfer speeds must be much slower than the CF cards,
thus allowing for slower continuous shooting... I'm not sure it's
worth it considering the extra money you paid for the d70 to have
the quick shooting!!!

Actually Fat only recognizes up to 2 GB partitions so you have to use the FAT 32 formatting method if you want to be able to use the full ¤ GB on the drive

I received mine today and it works great!! One tip, if you want to plug it directly into your laptop and don't have a CF type II slot try this place

http://www.MemorySuppliers.com and search for an IBM Microdrive PCMCIA Adapter. I comes with a carrying case for the MD and the adapter all for $9.00 + Shipping.

Great price and you don't have to use your camera battery for downloading the 1,000+ jpg images!!!!
