Got me a 4GB MuVo today. Followed the directions at http://www.pcconsultant.com/microdrive.htm and extracted the 4GB microdrive. Only problem I had was that I could not fully format the drive connected to my PC (it would error out at 50%). Thought I was screwed but then I did a format in the D70 and viola! It formatted and worked fine. Well over 1100 fine jpg pics (the number is too big to display on the LCD) and around 600 RAW+Jpgs! I shot both with great results. Transfer speed is fast, can do 9 fine Jpegs in 3 seconds and it only takes a few more seconds to shoot again. I can do the same with RAW+Jpg but the buffer fills up at 4 shots. Of course with single shots there is no difference between the microdrive and a CF card.

Just too cool. Not bad for $200!

If you are wondering I bought it at Wal-Mart in Maryland! It was the only one left at the Glen Bernie store.

I was going to get the Muvo for music, thanks for the tip about using it for photos. Can you go back and forth with the microdrive, are you planning to use it with the Muvo for music too?

I remember reading about this a few months ago, and now that I'm shooting RAW+JPEG too, yes, $200 for 4GB sounds awesome since I was actually considering a 40x 512MB CF for that ballpark price and would only fit 75-80 RAW+JPEGs. 4GB would be sweet. My only concern is reliability and durability especially since I'd be tempted to put off loading files onto my computer for CD/DVD burns. With a smaller card, the space restriction would help me be disciplined about it -- and really, I don't shoot quite as many shots as most people around here.

Still, how can one pass up 4GB for that kind of $?? Hmmm...

Did you reformat it for 4GB storage, instead of 2GB? I believe you need to do that to get 600 RAW files. On my measely 256MB cards, I get 35-40 shots each, so 600 for 4GB (ie. 16x the size of 256MB) makes sense. D70 RAW+JPEG files average 5.7MB + 750KB each for me.

yep, thats the question. I have a 1GB CF card, and a 512 Ultra II card with 2 more 512 Ultras on the way.

This is so very tempting though, I may be checking out my local walmart tomorrow. :)

I guess its good that CF can be used in so many other things.
Still, how can one pass up 4GB for that kind of $?? Hmmm...

Hmmm no luck for me. Just tried to reformat it from my pc and also in the camera and im getting the same numbers..

Try formatting in your PC with a FAT32 system because that tends to squeeze more info it than a regular FAT partition.

I already have an iPod for MP3 (30GB). I am going to put the empty MuVo on ebay. It goes for $40-$70. Makes the 4GB microdrive even cheaper ;)

You can put a normal CF card in a MuVo for MP3...

After you reformatted in camera, did you actually shoot until it was full? Or are you just looking at the capacity count on the camera? You know that that count is overly conservative, right? It basically assumes the RAW files are not compressed at all, ie. 9.5MB size, instead of 5-6MB.

I also got the 4 GB out of the mp3-player.

It's the imho the same little IBM/Hitachi MD as it is sold for double the price as storage for cameras, just the label ist only white.

Pretty awesome that the player including the drive is half the price of the drive alone....might there be someone fooling users of digital foto?

There's a rumor saying that next shipment of mp3-players will have the MD fixed into the player so one can't get it out.

is it possible to do it with a normal set of "x" or "-" screw-drivers or do I need a special screw-driver?

know next weekend if it works ! I also ordered one 256 MB FlashCard instead of the 4 GB drive :-)
