I have three Nikons and two remotes and I can't get a combination of remote + NX Air to work.

All three camera's are USB-C.

The iPad Air is USB-C.

For my Z7
For my Z30 and Zf
  • I have the official Nikon ML-L7 remote
  • For both cameras, as soon as I switch USB from MTP/PTP to iPhone, the ML-L7 options are disabled.
Both the Z30 and Zf will link up to NX Air and transfer photos over USB-C cable without the remote attached.

I'm trying to find some combination of camera and remote that will allow me to transfer images ( as taken ) to NX Air.

(I'm setting up a Christmas photo booth at our house this year and was really hoping to be able let family use the remote control to take the photos - NX Air has a handy feature for being able to air drop the photos directly to their iPhone. This would work great except the for the damnable remote)

Well, the convoluted work-around is to bring a laptop into the mix.

Running Lightroom as tethered ( the Zf is not recognized ) to my Z7, I set a destination folder to a Google Drive folder.

On the iPad, I have Google Drive open to that folder.

Sometimes the photos will auto-show up, sometimes you have to pull/drag-down to get latest images.

Lightroom is not the best at tether connection.

Capture One has a trial version that runs for 30 days. You could try the tether on your camera. it has remote control as well.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I could have stated my problem more simply: I cannot find a combination of tethering + remote control that works.

If I try BlueTooth or Wifi on any camera, it always renders the remote/wireless trigger inoperable.

Even using the camera WiFi <-> Laptop, the BT remote will not work.

Remote Control - You use a remote shutter release such as the two I mentioned in my original problem statement.

I have used Yongnuo remote flash triggers to activate Nikon shutters. It would note use the wifi or Bluetooth of the camera and so should not interfere. You have to run a short cable from the trigger to the body, then use a second trigger as a wireless remote. Might be worth a try. I think Godox can do this as well.
