I have the R6 MK2 and have really enjoyed using it for a couple of years. It's a great low-light camera, right up my alley. I pushed the R6 MK2 to its limits shooting at ISO 204,000 with very nice results.

There's no point in shooting if you can't share your work. Sharing photos helps with educating everyone on what is around them and in my case, also showing what the R6 M2 is capable of. I chose The WeatherNetwork as my platform for sharing photos. Everyone checks the weather :-) And it has a huge audience.

At the end of 2023 The WeatherNetWork (TWN) published the Top 5 photos as voted on by viewers. One of the many photos taken at ISO 204,000.

No noise reduction was applied to the image taken at ISO 204,000. It looks even better with noise reduction (I use the free version of NeatImage).

Low-light is my priority with accurate AF. If the specs of the R6 MK4 are correct, I see the Max ISO is down to 64,000. Yikes. My R6 MK2 Max ISO is 104,200. Quite the drop for the extra 10MP increase.

I tend to hold onto my cameras for around 8 years before upgrading. 40D, 7D MK2 and then R6 MK2. If low-light is my priority then the new R6 seems to be a step down for me. I'll wait for the reviews. I have my eyes set on a R7 MK2, for the reach.

xx

Congrats. I submit photos a few of our local/national stations for the same category. Fun to see your photos on the screen when watching the news. Nothing I submitted has I been with really high ISO's but I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

My largest so far was ISO 40,000 with my R (30mp) but that was years ago. My largest wildlife shots to date were 20,000 ISO with my R7 and 16,000 with my R6II. I was out today and got a bird at 16,000.

I really liked my R so I'm getting the R6III. I sold my R7 and I will think on the R7II. I started to mess around with Super Resolution and it is pretty good. I prefer not to crop that much with my R6II but in a pinch SR works. For web work I do is not that critical. Just like my R5, 100-500 and 1.4 made a nice combo so does the R6II.

If it comes out I might forgo the R7II and look at the 300-600 f4-5.6L. Canon won't be giving that lens aways.

With the 1.4, cropped and Super Resolution. It's not fine art or a wall mount but for sharing and posting on sites it's fine. We'll see what 30mp does. My buddy used to be into photography but he dropped it 40 years. He's just blown away with what I show him with high ISO and/or cropping.

Thanks Zeee. I like your bald eagle photo. It's been a long time since I've had the opportunity to see or photograph one.

I know people who have the R6 MK1 which is slightly better in high ISO over the R6 MK2 say they couldn't take a photo in morning light in the woods because they use ISO 4,000. These people have no idea what the camera can do with high ISO. They probably don't know how to expose (ETTR) to minimize noise or what noise-reduction software can do. They still have old school thinking in mind when high ISO was really noisy back in the day. I try and help educate them :-)

I don't make any money from my photography. I do it for fun and sharing. I have a decent paying full-time job so wildlife photography is a hobby. A great one that gets me outdoors, exploring the wildife around me and meeting up with like-minded people.

Me too. My wife spotted it as we were driving a few hours north of the city. Marsh from the highway so I couldn't get close. Even after talking a few steps forward it took off so it wouldn't have mattered. They are usually pretty skittish in our areas.

I'm exactly the same but we're retired now. Travel and photography.

I haven't seen too many up close here in Eastern Ontario, Canada.

Oh sweet retirement, looking forward to it soon.

When we go visit the outlaws at Brockville I go Osprey hunting. I have never seen an eagle in those area. Around Merrickville in June. Didn't one in the air this time.
