This camera only works with the mentioned cards in the manual. If you try another brand it may work at the beginning but eventually will give problems later. If you shoot with SANDISK, LEXAR, etc, everything is OK but if you try other cards … ARGGHHHH !!!

Have any of you had any experience on this ?

D70, 18-70DX

Sandisk 1GB and Crucial 1 GB no problems

Even after formatting in *istD and moved to D70, still no problem,
the D70 creates a new folder and keeps on shooting
Agreed, RiData Pro 512 Mb between these cameras and no problems with writing and retrwiving on the D70.

.....but how is this a "problem" with the D70? It would be a problem IF the cards the manual says to use did not work.....but they do work. I can see how it might be a problem to someone who doesn't own the mentioned cards but it's not a camera problem.

The cards they list in the manual are the ones that nikon have tested and certify will work. They have not tested others so nikon can not guarantee they will work. Buy them and use at your own risk. These other cards are cheaper for a reason. Usually because of manufacturing QA & tolerances & the like. You do get waht you pay for most times.

Have you tried to format the CF in camera?

Used without any problem: microdrive 1Gb, sandisk ultra II, trascend, canon,
and other without known marks.

I had my Sandisk Ultra II 1gig fail after I had written 256meg to it. I reformatted in the camera and I was still getting "CHA" message on my LCD. I even tried copying files to the card from my PC using my card reader to no avail.

The card was replaced free of charge, but I guess it goes to show that even the reputable brands can still have problems...

cheers,
Damien
... I've heard of problems with some off-brand CF cards with other
dSLRs. Just another reason I won't use anything but SanDisk Ultra
II.

M: When I first got my camera I also read that Nikon tested Sandisk & Lexar. Having everything happen to me in the PC word at one time or another I thought I would try to help my average and stick with the cards that Nikon tested.

I have 3 cards all standard SANDISK 2-512K & 1-Meg. each card has been formatted one time inside the D-70. No problems to this date after about 6 months.

I have heard of many problems with other brands.
