I really need some help

I don't know which camera to get! I don't really need more than 2 MP, but I want at least 3X zoom (I'd prefer a bit more...) starting at 35mm. It's important that it works in very bright conditions. It shouldn't be too big, I want to be able to wear it around my neck while skiing, hiking and so on, without it being too heavy or in the way. What should I get?

If you want a small camera with a big zoom at an affordable price, you can try the c700. its 10x zoom and very small. I carry it around my neck and i do lots of hiking an mountain bike. When i go hiking i leave it around my neck and it goes into sleep mode until i am ready to shoot.

I would not recommand though going skiing with any digital camera as the snow and humidity is not the best for electronic. The c700 is a little hard to see the LCD indoor with very low light but outdoor its great. If the photos are not overexposed the chromatic aberation is very minimal, i have not had problem with it so far.

The latest are photos from Sequoias national park and the c700 did wonderfully in the snow and difficult contrast between bright snow and shadow.

If more than 3x optical zoom and relative small size are important, get the C-700UZ.

Using it while actually skiing might be an issue. Water will not be its friend nor will low temps. Both my digicams (D-490Z and C-2100UZ) are speced to operate from 32-104 deg F.

If skiing is a primary use, I'd get a D-510Z, because it is relatively pocketable (to keep it warm and dry) and has a clamshell design which provides the on-off and lens cover all in one: 3x optical zoom and 2.1 megapixels and now selling for $299.

Or you could go up in resolution and pocketability (and price) to the $699 D-40Z: 2.8x optical zoom, 4 mp and very small. Makes my wallet try to escape everytime I think about it

One of my cameras is a s100 Canon ( only 2x) very small and they offered a watertite case. You could look at small Oly and Canon cameras that offer diving cases this could be the answer for skiing.

It looks that the SONY P50 will be a fine solution for you , the C700 is not that pocket as the one that you need to get ..

Yes but she want to wear it around her neck, i do this all the time with my c700 and i barely notice its there, even when i do mountain bike, although its not ideal to do mountain bike with a camera around your neck i think.

what do you think about the P50 quality? the only Sony i like is the 707, other seam to have a worse image quality than Olympus.

There is also some Canon that are very small and the Olympus D40 but its more expensive. I was surprised about the very small size of the D40.

Going for ski , or even walking in the snow with a camera on your neck is very dangerous !!! For your self above all ,and for the cameras health too ..

what do you think about the P50 quality? the only Sony i like is

I have a friend who haves the P50 , it takes nice clear pictures ,but you must do many manual settings so to get the best of it .

Vivid colours - clear pictures - easy to use - very easy to have it on your belt .

I am not making comparison with the UZi at all , Sony P50 uses a fish eye lense ,so for the type and size of this camera ,i will say that its a nice one.

From what others say more experianced than me the 707 in comparison with the 2100UZ is a slow camera like a turtle .. Personly i have notice in many reviews ,from the sample images ,that Sony in this range of cameras trys to effect the power of the colours by a mysterius way , i am gessing that they use some software enhance in theyr firmware .

The problem is not visible when you are photographing out door shots or friends and family images , but when you will try to shoot something with very bright colour , it will come up blury and over exposed .If i have right Sony looks to try to show superiority in the colours range by using derty tricks .
