I have not read lately regarding A77II's SSS errors...

As I am saving to buy one in the upcoming weeks, I wonder if there's been any new development.

Are people still suffering the same situation? is the steadyshot system still giving headaches? are people who bought the camera in the last month also getting the error under similar/same circumstances?

Had mine for a month now.. shoot with SSS on with shutter all the time.. no issues.

..... I also bumped into another Sony A77II user this week who is also having the same issue....

As far as I can judge Sony are simply not acknowledging the problem.......

I even gave some feedback to Sony on their UK site which highlighted the issue ...... they appear to have published it (which surprised me) but I do not see any progress in fixing it.... my feedback is listed as the most helpful positive comment though!!! ...... see link attached

Going to see if I can break mine as I haven't had this issue.

When you pan is it left to right, right to left, or either?

Is it only when the dial is set to 12fps?

When you say it produces SSS error, how? Does it say "sss error" or is it an indicator?

What SD card are you using?

Is it jpeg, raw or raw+jpeg?

Use on 12fps...... A priority...... am using 280Mb/sec SD cards (even though the camera can only cope with about 95Mb/sec cards..... AF on tracking expanded spot...... using JPG

Imagine you are panning BIF in both directions one pan after another so you a firing off bursts of 10 or more shots in close succession with the shutter half pressed before you start the burst...... between each burst point the camera downwards as if you are checking where the next bird is coming from.......

You should get the problem any time after about the 6th burst............ you will get a "SSSerror" message in red on your viewfinder .....

I went on a 3-week business trip last month. I will try again from Sony Store and will receive my 3rd copy this Friday. I'll see if a design issue or initial batch quality variations only. I am a heavy BIF shooter for 10 years now and I think I am capable :-D. and I do swing the camera/lens from all angles (100% hand holding). All JPG and 99% in manual mode. Tried shutter priority and other settings and also encountered the SSS error. Also reported it and was advised to send it to Laredo shop.

The situation creates a little loss of confidence towards Sony. I am another who has placed on hold my purchase of a 77m2, until Sony acknowledges/corrects the SSS problem.

All that may be, but the problem needs to be recognized and fixed. For me, the stabilized viewfinder feature is a major selling point of this camera. Without this feature I would be moving to Nikon to get this feature in long telephotos (Tamron 150-600 mainly).

I use the A77II mainly for shooting wildlife and a lot of BIF's. I have not encountered this problem so far. Have been using 12 fps with no problem.

It still happens with my new A77ii, bought at begin of July - regardless of lens and not doing burst shoots. Lenses used so far are Sigma Art 1.8/18-35mm, SAM 2.8/85mm and Sony 55-300mm. It is annoying as i have to get always the battery in and out (not to wait 30 seconds) and most times it happens then again...

For me that feature is important as I am used to stabilezed viewfinder, coming back from Nikon to Sony. As i left Sony after the annoying flas delay in A33/55 :-D :-D

I've had mine for 3 months now and not a single error. This weekend I shot almost 500 shots at a Youth Soccer game, most with 8 or 12 fps burst with SSS in viewfinder on without a single error message.

Hmmm...even though I'd be unlikely to encounter it, it concerns me that Sony isn't addressing this. I've been considering upgrading from my a55 to the a77m2 but the lack of response to the SSS issue is holding me back, as well as the overall future of APS-C A-Mount.

I'd likely pull the trigger if they acknowledged this issue and either corrected the firmware or allowed for a direct warranty repair. The future of A mount is likely a risk worth taking given how impressive the price vs. performance of the a77m2 is.

(it's very low- I have to get my ears close to

Why would they not fix it under warranty? It's pretty clear it was an early batch. If it is happening as described..in a few cameras, it seems reproducible. So would be a warranty repair. Pull the trigger...it is a wild ride.

I used to own an A55. Since the A55 didn't have this feature and the A77ii is a much better camera at only $300 more than the A55 was new it would be a mistake to reject the camera on this issue alone. Simply turn off SSS in viewfinder if it worry's you. There are a ton of reasons to upgrade beyond that feature.

The A55 has a similar issue worst than the A77ii for sure. With extended video and with a lot of burst shooting my A55 would often overheat. If yours doesn't then I can guarantee that with your type of shooting the A77ii will not over heat. Another minor issue with the A55 was the ghosting problem which was corrected with subsequent cameras.

Every camera made has some sort of issue and you will find someone somewhere who will complain.

That noise is the vibration of the Sensor when SSS is on and is normal.

I hope Sony will somehow fix the problem or come clean. I am withholding buying the A77II and continue using my A77.

I really want the II version, but this problem, and yes, it is a problem at least for me, is keeping me away from bhphoto-ing the camera.

Hopefully soon Sony will share with us the details of the fix. Hopefully.

Sony would have to replicate the issue, so.......... An intermittent electronic issue is another thing!

If you should buy and it does it, take a working camera and record the failure.
