I did it !!!!!!!!

when I checked staples.com mine also said ---

Order Date: 10/16/2002
Order Status: Shipped
Scheduled Delivery Date: 11/05/02

I was concerned when I saw the delivery date--- I called staples and was told that it would be 7-14 days it is coming direct from olympus. staples doesn't stock it in there warehouse, I think that is better hasn't been sitting around for who knows how long.
Can't wait--- but half to !!!!!!
Nice to hear! I STRONGLY considered the 717 before deciding on the
E-20.

BTW, staples.com says my E-20 shipped! WooHooo

i envy u already...LOL. WAY TO GO!

Jenn
Just ordered an E-20 --- did a pricematch with staples------ they
had the camera listed at $1699.98----- found it on the
web----www.bilibi.com--- for $899.00--- staples has a 110% price
guarantee----went from $899.00 to $818.90---- got a 2 year extended
warranty for $99.98---- 6% sales tax---
$ 55.13 total $ 974.02------

this web site is the only one I could find at that price that had
all the necessary information for staples to price match----
needed to say E-20N ---
USA Warranty--- and a list of included items-----

Went to my local [73 miles away] Staples and attempted to do the same thing..... local manager thought it was great at first, but then it was 'shot down' by someone.
It's now in the hands of the New York State Attorney General's office.

The E-20 was my next goal for a camera, and this only added to my desire for it; I can't see how Staples can justify doing it for one, but not for all.
I will keep people up to speed on how this works out.

How did it get there?????

I agree with you on that---- sears did the same thing ---some stores would match and some would not.

The E-20N is a strong contender for me, also. What killed it for
me was the 4X optical zoom. I consider 5X to be a bare minimum.
I'm spoiled with my UZI, I guess. I would have actually preferred
the 7X/8X zooms of the Dimage 7Hi and the Coolpix 5700, but the
image quality of the F717 leaves those two in the dust, IMO.

If a picture paints a 1,000 words, how come mine only make 3?

I tried to do this over the phone and so far I haven't gotten a no...

I got a very pleasant woman on the phone who looked up the price and went to ask her lead about pricematching...After a while she came back and said that she won't be able to do it today but has to call Olympus to verify something about warranty shrugs ...So, she will call me on Monday regarding this...so, let's all cross our fingers

I see no problem with this.

If Staples isn't honoring their price-matching policy, then in effect it has
already been "discontinued".

If that's the case, then why should they get away with what would then amount to false advertising?

If his deal meets the letter of Staples price matching policy, then Staples must keep their end of the deal.

Great, now Staples will buy your camera for you, then the VIPs of
Staples will get together and have a meeting on this and
discontinue internet price-matching. Good Job! Thanks a lot!

I brought this to their attention. Their local office is about 5 blocks from my Staples Store.

The Staples Gen. Mgr. [at first] said 'Wow, what a good job of bargain hunting"; then after he strolled to his office he came back and told me that the whole thing had been 'shot down' by someone above him. [I told him that someone else had done the actual work in hunting down this deal]

Actually they aren't honoring their OWN policy now, so who cares if they abolish it? If they are allowed to pick & choose when to honor their own guarantee then we've all already lost.

I asked them the following questions, should I have asked more?

"I am interested in the Olympus E-20N and wonder if you can answer
some questions for me.
1. Is the camera new or refurbished?
2. Is the camera manufactured for sale in the USA?
3. Does the camera come with all the standard items, i.e. camera
strap, battery, etc.?
4. Is the camera in stock?
If the camera is not in stock, what is the logest expected delivery
time the Southeastern USA?"

If they answer at all, I'm hoping that putting it in writing will keep them honest. If I get an answer, I'll post it here.

I figure if I put it on a credit card and I'm not happy, I can contest it. Am I thinking straight?

Maby ask for the SKU NO.---- and Mfg Part No ----- that was one of the things staples wanted to see.

Thank you Gladys for doing all the hard work. I too went to my Staples ready to argue and much to my surprise I didn't have to do too much. They took my Bilibi print outs and ordered me one as well at the price match. In fact, I watched the store manager type the info in on the order and Staples has a category on their computer for price matches on internet competition. Many many thanks for helping me find a great discount.

I went over to Staples today too. The people there were very nice, but really didn't want to sell me the camera. They finally came back to me and said they wouldn't sell it to me because the store didn't actually carry that item. They gave me a number to call (1-800-staples) and said talk to them. They also suggested I buy it from bilibi.

When I called the number they gave me, the lady there, who was rather short with me, said bilibi was not an authorized Oly dealer so they didn't have to honor the price match. End of conversation.

After a lot of digging around, I found the E-20 at buy-dig.com for $1153, $35 shipping. That's a good price, and buy-dig is a good company as far as I can see from researching them. I may trot over to another Staples tomorrow and see what I can do. Otherwise, buy-dig looks pretty good. BTW, Staples list price for the camera is a whopping $1699! Maria

Maria, If you go to staples web site and look up their pricematch guarantee it says----" If you find a lower price, anwhere else, on a new identical item, just show us the lower price when buying the item at Staples, or within 14 days after your Staples purchase and we'll give you 110 % of the difference."----- It does not say anything about having to buy from an authorized dealer---- I would print that out and take it with you. where are you located ---

Gladys, Thanks for the tip. I did have that page printed out, but there was no arguing with the lady on the phone. I have a couple more stores nearby, and I think I'll call them first to see if they'll honor the darned thing. I must say that I often get very frustrated with Staples. I haved gotten to the store six or seven minutes after it opened on a Sunday morning, only to find that an advertised special from the Sunday paper was already 'sold out.' It's all very frustrating, and I do as little business with them as possible. I don't like being toyed with, and this feels very dishonest of them. Maybe I'll also call them back and tell them there is no 'authorized dealer' clause in their policy statement. Thanks. Maria

Wouldn't it save the hassles of driving to 10 different Staples stores and arguing with their management?

If the answer is that Bilibi is not a trustworthy/reputable dealer, and you don't think they'd actually sell you an E20 at that price, then why should Staples honor a pricematch on it? If they are on the up and up, then Staples has no right to refuse a match.

There's an old story about two stores.... one had an item selling for $500, the other had it on sale for $300. Customer walks into the $500 store and asks to buy the item for $300 saying "your competitor has it for $300". Why don't you go there? he was asked. "They're out of stock" was the reply.

"Oh... when we're out of stock, ours are also $300". :-)

Does anyone have an idea what the current dealer cost is for an E20?
That's one way to know if an "advertised" price is genuine.

I thought about that so I sent an e-mail to them asking for information that will help me decide if I want to buy from them.
