I wish Olympus would unleash their E1 replacement.

The suspense is killing me!

The next 4 months are going to be rough!

When do you think we will see a REAL picture of it...end of January...early February?

4 months ? are your sure ? You will have to wait longer. By Feb 06 we are going to have a E-XX not a E-X. The E-1 replacement will come towards Photokina 2006 ! These are of course my predictions, and I will be most happy if they are proven worng !!!
cheers

Yes but you couldn't possibly buy one because there will be something even better after that.

Only teasing, I want one too.

Regards ,
Bob.

I to am awaiting this camera money is sitting in the bank just waiting, i hope it will not be long the biggest worry to me is what PRICE. I hope it is not more than £1500 christmas is near upon us and i dont want to spend to much, money for my camera. Come on Olympus hurry up a lot of folk are getting fed up waiting regards Alan.

You have three decent DSLRs on the market and have had a nice DSLR for several years. As a former Minolkta user who jumped ship (to Canon) when KM released an overpriced, WAY-late, 6mp camera in a 8mp world, I can tell you from experience there's NOTHING more painful than waiting on a product, especially when there is no option but to jump ship - or wait like a good loyal user to be greeted with greedy prices and substandard features.

Buy an E-500 and be happy. :)

We love the wait, the misery, the suspense, the sheer anticipation, the hope, the hopelessness - you get the point right! :-)

Nobody ever listens to me.....

posted this months ago, then bought canon.....

Right then, just after posting this I thought “What the hell, phone them.”

Spoke to a really nice lady in London who has told me there is NO plans for a professional body to be released. I’ve been told that there is a new E system body nearing release but NOTHING as professional as the current E1.

I explained that I needed another body ( E1 not mine :-) ) within the next month but would hold out if there was a new one to be released within the next 6 months, more or less was told not to hold my breath for at least another 12 months as nothing is planned.

So if Olympus Trade ( London ) are to be believed, I’m sorry to disappoint anyone waiting for the updated E1 or what ever you want to call it release, there isn’t one.

Right then, Next question, Who has the best prices on E1’s and battery grips in the UK.

Thanks

Lisa

I saw you post back whenever, but the information was sooooo depressing that I chose not to believe it.

In addition, any Olympus Rep that you are able to speak with on the phone doe not know the innerworkings of Olympus and cannot likely tell you anything about product development. She is likely reading from a script that is given to people to answer questions like the ones you had.

BTW, how is that Nikon equipment treating you?

Lisa,

I understand that you are just passing on what you were told, but I cannot believe that Oly would be that dumb. As time rolls on, Olympus is picking up more and more dedicated E-1 owners, due to the obvious price/quality relationship. For Olympus to say, sorry, but even though we are offering more and more of an array of professional quality lenses, we have decided to drop our pursuit of the professional market -- would border on insanity. Just because folks are impatient, and just because Oly is taking its time (I for one, am glad) to release an E-1 upgrade, there is no reason to believe that Olympus has lost its corporate mind. I, for one, am patiently waiting -- Olympus will take care of those who don't jump ship.

God Bless,
Greg

Heck... I just bought an E-1... I'm a happy guy and don't really care when its replacement comes out. Although, truthfully, I am caught up in the frenzy of it all. I figure by the time it comes, I'll still be in my learning curve between 2 cameras, printer, photoshop or aperture... and the list just keeps growing :) so I'm probably going to drool and save my $ and it'll be a couple years before I do the upgrade too.

1. Olympus corporate security must be amazing. Considering all of the people out here in the world who are just dying to find out "what and when" it is to me simply incredible how few substantive leaks there are.

2. It seems painfully obvious from that an E-1 replacement has been delayed because of problems with a supplier (or suppliers) of important components. Although I am far from an expert on these things, I have read enough to understand the difficulty involved in getting more pixels on a 4/3 size sensor while at the same time doing something about noise.

3. To me it seems an unbelievably bad marketing decision by Olympus to have failed to release an upgraded "E-1n" during 2005. They have completely failed to pursuade me that it would have been too difficult to put an 8.0 MP sensor in the E-1 and fix a handful of things from the original. If rumors of such a model had surfaced at the end of 2004 and if it had come out this summer, I suspect that there would be very few people ditching Oly for "greener pastures."

...is not in the acquisition, but in the anticipation. Acquire your object of desire and then you will merely crave the next great thing. Once again the bliss of anticipation begins.

Or so I'm told.

True but silver unpainted E500 pics leaked, even if they did look like they were shot with a mobile phone (or a Kodak CX series ;-)

the CCD is my guess - maybe they're waiting on Panasonic?

Totally with you there - OK, there are loonies about who don't care a jot (like myself) who just want a fast, waterproof, less noisy E20-a-like anyway but they needed to get that biggie in there while the canon 5D was inbetween announcment and launch - Nikon are doing the same waiting game with the D100 replacement (a camera which needed replacing when the D70 came out) ..

can I add a "4" ?

4:- LENSES -------- WHERE is that Damn 35 macro? - how long does it take to release a cheap plastic prime onto the market?, that thing should have shipped alongside the E500 !!!! . I can understand megabux F2 zooms taking their time as they HAVE to be absolutely Perfectomundo and are complex beasts at the best of times but that little cheap macro lens is needed NOW (by me anyway ;-)

Please ignore the Typos, I'm the world's worst Typist

I don't think Oly's decision not to release "E-1n" was a "failure" ---- it seems rational to me that they needed to shore up the profitability of their imaging company and that meant reallocating resources to the consumer end for the near term..... (and by the way, don't everyone leap to bankruptcy hysteria when the next numbers come out ---- remember, they projected no profitability until late in the fiscal year....)

I was actually quite heartened by the speed of the development and release of E500, the continued progress of the high end lenses (they could have shelved them entirely for a year or so under pressure of profitability), and the amount of performance improvements already visible in the E500 over the E1 and E300.....

I had been worried that they would pull resources from r&d altogether......or at least shift resources to digicams.....the fact that they are obviously still working on DSLR technology - even with shift to consumer end -- is quite reassuring to me....

i beg to differ here, and we choose not to listen? (me included)

Ex

'twould seem to me that Oly 'officials' have said straight up that at PMA? 06 (feb) the new Ex will be announced, and they are deciding on the sensor to put in the beast... Availability ??
Exx

The new Exx at a more 'resonable' pricepoint, but less 'rugged' to be announced and available prior to Feb 06.

nahhhh..... just diverted the 'A' design team to the E500 - to build the money maker?
Although I am far from an expert on these
things, I have read enough to understand the difficulty involved in
getting more pixels on a 4/3 size sensor while at the same time
doing something about noise.
I think they are only keeping the sensor options open - no 'trouble' at all.

i suspect now the 'A' team has done the E500 - finished, what 4 months ago? - they will be working on the Exx model - and the new Ex sensor is likely to be the same as this new Exx...

here i strongly disagree - I think soooooo many E1 owners are looking for a minimum of a doubling of pixels... The E1n was rumoured at the same 8mp sensor as the E-300/E-500.. and i read of quite a few E-1 owners also having one of these beasts... Oly are right to have a marketing strategy based on volume sales.. imho only

AND i see enough former E1 owners coming back to the E-1, and even former users of Nikon and Canon...

ahhhhh..... 'tis fun to be an armchair ceo every now and again....

i do really enjoy my E-1. cheers, adrian

If they are going to release a new model in a few months then it would be silly to spend their money retooling to make a stop-gap. If they did release a "E-1N" it would be very worried that the next model was at least a year off. While this still might be the case, I feel a little reassured that Oly hasn't touched the E-1.

By the way, I am one of the people that would like to see a solid double digit E- something, but I would much rather have 5 high quality pixels verses 8 medium quality ones and/or lose some of the high ISO capability. (yes, it does have some)

I never stated that I was going to buy one…at least not at the starting price. That camera will have to come down in price before I get it. The price cannot begin to decline until AFTER the unit is released. So having a sooner release date means that I can afford the camera sooner.

For me, just releasing the camera is good enough. Or even a picture of it…a REAL picture of it…would be nice.

If I win the lottery, all things will change. I will get the camera the day it is released. I may also get a complete Canon 1Ds mkII system to cover all photo opportunities. When you have disposable income…dispose of it!!!
