How to get the A1/A2 firmware source??

I thought RAW file size was proportional to pixel count, like TIFF.

If RAW compression is possible (as it evidently is), does a compressed file take longer to write to the card, due to compression time? Is there a trade-off then between file-size economy and write time? The latter would be more important to me...

I tried to zip a RAW file on my computer, and it didn't manage to compress it much. I suppose some sohpisticated algorithm could be developed to "encode" the RAW data before writing it to the card, and have the RAW converter "decode" it. Writing a smaller file to the memory card would definitely speed up shot-to-shot times, because the memory card is the slowest part of the process on Ax's. Likely the extra time for the camera chip to compress the file would be insignificant compared to the savings in write time. Converting to JPG is a type of compression, and that is fast! JPGs take less time to write to the card than RAW, even though there is the extra step to compress for JPG.

BTW, why are our RAW files not all exactly the same size? They don't vary by much (up to 100 bytes difference), but if it is just a dump of the sensor data, plus EXIF, what's the story? The thumbnail is stored separately.

Got the firmware loaded onto cf card (confirmed by computer). When I follow the directions to upgrade I get the message on my camera that says:
100km003
no images

What am I doing wrong?

So unless someone has a 'significant other' working at the Foveon or Fuji labs, and we have access to the complete KM source code for the Ax camera, lets enjoy our pipes.... top-up my hookah fellas ;)
Well pipes are fun things:) These ARE marvelous platforms though. And now that the rumours are flying about Sony no longer repairing the bad CCDs:((... It would seem a tragedy to waste that marvelous AS platform .. As Sony seems quite content to do. If only the R2 follow on to the R1 would be SSS! But it may be a long while before there is a real, serious, prosumer again:( So much really significant, serious, mechanical stuff is just going in the waste bin, not even recyclable. It is a sad society we live in. Those who cannot dream, cannot see that devastation.
