How to emulate studio portrait?

Did I offend you feivel?
a bit
Would you rather I divorce my impressions
and speak in reverence of everything posted here?
no
we know you are a minimalist

i would rather you post your minimalist impression for all to see and not knock other artists because they dont subscribe to minimalism.

did you say the changing proportions didnt work, or detracted from the image? which would be valid criticism if you wished to profer criticism. but to say the use of such a technique galls you (implying because it does not meet the criteria of your philosophy of art) yes, i find a bit offensive because it stifles free expression and is mildly impolite.

Perhaps you would like my retouch.
very much
you are extremely talented

Indeed, I didn't care for the dress, nor the original skintone.

DI
The second picture isn't true to the original. One particularly
galling effect is that the artist changed the picture proportions,
reducing the width by a few percent. No wrinkles of course, and
impossible lighting.

Technically, it's quite good, but I think you could find better
work to copy. Pictures like that are the bain of online personals.
It's a completely different person.

DI
not true to what?
not true in what sense?
whose standards are you referring to?
changing picture proportions is galling to whom?
is lightening the background or removing shadows as galling?
can you send me a list of all permitted and forbidden retouching
techniques please.
do you have any idea how many persons are quite happy to have their
wrinkles removed, either photographically or with botox, you may
find that galling, but i bet you dont tell them as much.

dave do you think the artist here accomplished what he
set out to do?

or do you think the question should be: did he accomplish what you
would like him to?

He "asked" for "ideas". He did not just state one person should respond, and asked for "ideas".
Read this aloud. I haven't a "clue" what you're "chiding" about.

Dave's idea was highly original in the abstract and immediately improves the picture. Coupled with Vikki's skin, I think the final product would be fit for printing.

What Katrin Eismann shows in her books are rudiments. If that's all it takes to be a professional retoucher, I've been wasting my time.

DI
Kingvald asked for ideas on how to make the photo more PROFESSIONAL
looking with this thread. He "asked" for "ideas". He did not
just state one person should respond, and asked for "ideas". My
goodness, Katrin Eismann makes a LIVING out of doing these types of
restorations and enhancements, and she openly shows how to do it in
her books. Unless I am missing something, what Vikki did was
spend her valuable time doing EXACTLY what was asked for by
Kingvald. And EXCEPTIONALLY WELL in my opinion.

Hi, I'm looking for advice on how to turn an "ordinary" photo into
an professional looking studio portrait.

Example, from this:

to this:

  • How to replace background ?
  • How to make a good looking canvas backround in Photoshop?
  • Lightning?
  • Skin cleanup?
Thanx

I give, what the heck are you talking about. I gotta know!

Also, what gives with the name change also. I thought I was the
only one allowed to have two names...lol
I upgraded my computer to a much, MUCH faster machine. I had forgotten my "wile_e_coyote" password for DPReview and was too impatient to wait for an e-mail from Phil so I simply opened as a "new" user with a reference to the lamented Wile E.

Ahhhh!!! Now I get it. I should have known that one, since I do it ALL THE TIME....lol

But I doubt that is what Vikki did. That girl is goooooood.

P.S. Why did you change your name??

Agreed!
And this intended to be humorous and not a reflection of Vikki's obvious talent.
