Thanks for the reply.

Any other comments?

Is there a generally accepted standard for the 10D's shapening
setting? I remember reading last month that a lot of people are
doing the +2 setting. I'd love to get some thoughts and direction.

Thanks!
Sharpness varies depending on the lens I use, so I keep sharpness at normal in-camera and do all sharpness adjustments either in my RAW conversion software and/or Photoshop with the help of Fred Miranda's 10D sharpening action.

Typically use "0" in-camera setting and Fred Miranda's sharpening action. I've had terrific results. Fred's action (and even PShop USM) is a fair amount more sophisticated algorithm than what the camera tries to do.

to -0- and use Fred M's Actions which work great for me.
And sometimes just "wing it" in PS 7 and get good results.

I'll join the chorus....

I don't use the in-camera sharpening at all (results too varied when I tried it).

Fred Miranda's action is great...and for the price saves a lot of headaches

...and on some shots I use PS USM

Everything, with is being done with the image after is leaves the sensor is done by the software. It applies to saturation, sharpening, interpolation, etc. I think Canon makes a good hardware for capturing images. I think Adobe makes a good software for processing images. My point is: let Canon do as little as possible after the image is captured, leave the rest to Adobe. The only exception is RAW conversion, which can be left to some other company. None of the above seem to be good at it, but I have to put up with Canon on this one for now.

To rephrase the above statement: shoot Adobe RGB with no settings changed and process everything in Photoshop (or Elements).

Hi again Juli. I seem to recall we "corresponded" in the Oly forum some while ago when we both had Uzis. Now it looks like we both have (or I soon will have) E10s. Great minds etc!!!
I set mine to +2 for awhile but still needed USM, so I went back to
the default 0.

I shoot raw...and either adjust sharpening during the conversion, or sharpen afterwards in photoshop.

I've found this to be the best method with the D30, D60, and now the 10D. I like this method because different shots usually require different levels of sharpness....and RAW gives the freedom to do so. By shooting Jpeg...once sharpness is there...you can't 'unsharpen' it.

I set all parameters to 0 and shoot RAW almost all the time. Post process using FM sharpening action for the 10D plus FM Digital Velvia.

I am pretty sure they were all shot JPG. See more comments on web site.
