How often do you shoot in P mode..

I use P if I am just taking pictures of nothing "photographic" such as family parties or snapshots, any other time I use AV or M.

I never ever use the Green Mode, as the P does most of the same but I can shift the program as I feel needed.

I shoot almost exclusively in M mode so that I can carefully consider each setting on a per shot basis. However, perhaps 5% of the time, I'll switch to Av or Tv modes depending on whether I have an aperture I wish to maintain or if I'm using a long lens and want to keep my shutter speed up.

When I first purchased my camera I used P very briefly and didn't like the results it was giving me so I switched to M and I've RARELY changed it since!!

well anyway..yes I always shoot in P mode, I don't know why. Lazy I guess. I am willing to change though, especially if it means blowing out less high lights.

I have never used the green settings, but I do use P, TV, AV, and M all about equal. It all depends on what I am shooting.

I've used M before (and you just watch the meter to "dial in" exposure compensation). The problem is when you get into situations where the light can change relatively rapidly (either due to actual light intensity or just due to location as the subject moves). In this case, I have to manually change the aperture/shutter as the light changes.

In Av or Tv mode, I can just dial in the appropriate exposure compensation once. If the light falls, the exposure is automatically changed for me, and I don't have to fiddle with changing the shutter/aperture while I'm also concentrating on focus and composition.

I have my 10d on P in my "walk around" mode. That way, I'll be ready for that once-in-a lifetme shot, otherwise depending on the situation, I fiddle around with A, TV, or M. And since there are no film costs- how many of you also use auto bracketing? Don't be a snob, fess up! LOL

With P, the camera picks a combo. Which is rarely the one that you
want. So then you have to "shift". For EVERY photo.

To me it's effectivley a combination of Av and Tv.

Am I missing something here? Why are people so anti P-mode when it
does basically the same thing as Av and Tv combined??

That describes my use 99% of the time. With plenty of light I just control DOF and inside I use flash so I use M. P is Pointless.
