got my 18-200 VR and took it to Canada last week. shoot 1500 pics and love the sharpness and vivid color it produced. but one thing not very sure is if the VR works fine but I have the feeling that the VR doesn't always work. I could be wrong but can any one suggest how should I test the VR feature?
Thanks in advance.

One can also try to hold camera real steady and aim at some spot far away. With VR on it's easier to keep the spot right in the center. You dont even have to take a picture.

Zoom to 200mm hold the lens without bracing, with VR on 1/2 press the shutter button you should see the image stabilize in the view finder.

I took a pic (zoom used) of things on the fridge which had some written text on it... you can read the text when VR is on and when VR is off, the text is blurred. Because the shots were taken in a unlit room, I was using slower shutter speeds which allowed the VR to make an important difference.

1500 shots and they are all sharp? I would say that the VR is definitely working.

No not all of them are sharp. That is why I am asking. I feel that some times it get mis-triggered, i.e., even if I hold the camera very still, I can still feel a big movement from inside the lens, and hence the picture become very blurry.

That will happen occasionally. My 18-200VR II does that also. There are times where my 18-135 kit lens took sharper shots than the VR (high shutter speeds, no or little zoom). However, in low light and zoomed shots, the VR usually had the better photo. VR is not perfect but it comes in handy most of the time.

Yes that was my feeling as well. I think with VR I am getting 50% more sharp pictures, but not always.
