HELP: Trees, Fall Color, Poor Focus

The days here have been very sunny and the curling of the leaves has produced glare in those areas in the direct sun. In the shade my shots have been better, but then the shutter speed is slower so I have to be extra careful.

I also think digital process has a problem with red/green colors together...not sure why.

That's a tough one. I played with it a little bit, and got a bit of edge definition out of it, but I think you may be right about an AF issue. I don't see any one spot that's in sharp focus.

The EXIF says "1/400s f/5.6 at 7.0mm" plenty fast enough to avoid any hand shake induced blur even w/out IS, and you're in that "sweet spot". Full wide too which I would think eliminates any possibility that you were simply too close at that distance. Any chance Macro mode was accidentally on?

Were you in spot or iESP focus mode? (I almost always use spot).

This is one area where I think EVFs really fall short. You can have something that looks just fine that really isn't. A good TTL optical viewfinder with one of those aids for knowing when you're in focus (split circles, etc.) would make it a lot easier to spot these things.
Here is one from yesterday...straight from the camera...focus was
on the lower tree branch in the middle.
