Just bought X-T50 bundle kit with XC15-45mmF3.5 lenses.

Based on manual selecting Mode A: Aperture-Priority AE should be as simple as:
  1. Rotate the auto mode selector lever to .
  2. Rotate the shutter speed dial to A.
  3. Slide the lens aperture mode switch (which XC15-45 doesn't have)
[A] will appear in the display - The display shows [P], not [A].

Could someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong?

Auto mode should be off, the aperture ring should be set manually (not set to A). the SS dial should be set to A, Auto-ISO could be on or off.

There is no aperture ring on that lens. You need to make sure the aperture is set to auto with whichever of the front and rear control dials is in charge of it. If you roll it through all the values, they run from wide open to closed down and then to auto mode, where the colour of the f-number in the display (assuming you’ve not disabled that) should change (either from blue to white or vice versa, I forget which),

Yeah, that makes sense. I don’t have any lenses without aperture rings, so that didn’t immediately occur to me.

That's how to set the camera for program or shutter priority modes, where the camera selects the aperture automatically. For the aperture priority mode the OP wants, turn whichever dial selects the aperture until the one you want is shown on the display.

With the shutter speed dial set to A, the speed will be set automatically. ;-)

Yes, sorry—evidently I forgot the question halfway through replying 🤪 Thanks for correcting it.

The thing is that there is no dial to control aperture . the front dial, which is supposed to control aperture, changes ISO instead. However, in the settings, it is set up to control F (aperture), then ISO, then everything else.

I'm clearly doing something wrong :(

Possibly a mis-setting here?

You can assign the role the front command dial plays through the Setup menu (wrench icon) "Button/Dial Setting" menu.

Scroll down to "Command Dial Setting" and select the first option, "Front Command Dial 1".

You can more quickly and directly access the command dial configuration menu by pressing and holding the front command dial.

As a reminder, here are the steps for configuring the X-T50 in aperture priority with the 15-45mm zoom mounted.

Have you pressed the front dial to cycle through the available options? The chosen setting at the bottom of the display will change colour to blue and marked with a little icon to show when it is selected.

In addition ensure that the setting immediately before this one labelled "APERTURE RING SETTING (A)" is set to "COMMAND" and not "AUTO".

It shouldn't matter on a lens that has no switch but best to play safe with settings like this one.

Consult the manual?
