Help... AF not working

Via Custom functions you can change the focus button. Perhaps someone else has changed the setting?

Just to make sure you have started from scratch, reset all custom functions to defaults and try again.

This what I was trying to say a few posts up but he never responded at all. This actually hapened to me on a body I bought, can't remeber which one but it freeked me out to.

It would be nice if he would let us know if he tried reseting all the settings.

I'm sorry, I meant to post that I did reset the settings. No dice.

by the way... the only way I hear the beeps and focus points light up is when i manually focus it and hit the shutter.

If i take everything out of focus and then hit the shutter 1/2 way in hopes that it'll autofocus, no dice.

Wow! I would never recommend buying your first dSLR right before a big trip. There's just too much learn and too many shooting decisions to make. I know a guy who bought his first dSLR right before he went on a trip. When he came back he realized that he had shot everything in the smallest jpg mode. That's just an example of one of the many lessons that you'd rather learn when you've got a few weeks to play with it.

AF / MF is on "AF"

I'm also not a complete SLR beginner or a non-tech person. I"m pretty tech savvy and I've played with SLRs for a bit.

This was how my 40d was. It is the way the custom function is set so that the button on the back was focus. It is currently set so that shutter button does exposure and shutter only.

Just wanted to thank everyone for helping.

I found the answer... I went to a local shop and the lens is bad. I used other lens and there was no problem at all.
