Hacking Pentax Debug mode

I have found how to enter Debug Mode on Pentax K-1 Mark II:
  1. Create on SD card file "00078400.597" with "[OPEN_DEBUG_MENU]" and LF char.
  2. Create on SD card file "DEVELOP.MOD" exact 10 bytes long with binary content:
    For Development Menu 1-6: 07 01 2C 1F 10 03 1E 16 05 2D
    For Development Menu 1-7: 07 1A 02 0A 19 18 1B 1C 05 11
    Use hexeditor to enter these bytes.
  3. Turn off camera, plugin this SD card. Leave card door open. Hold "menu" button and turn camera on.
I have also found how to enter Debug Mode on other Pentax cameras. I would like to discuss about what is possible in debug mode.

PLEASE: do not post messages "debug mode can't this or can't that". This topic is all what debug mode "can".

How can we use it for further hacking?
 
Looking forward to seeing where this might go, the only warning is fiddling with values in debug mode could potentially cripple the camera so be careful.

Do you mean "For Development Menu" twice? Or should one be a different option.

There are 2 ways to get in there. One way you see only pages 1-6, another way you get to see one more page. Not sure why it is so.

Please, can you create 00078400.597 and DEVELOP.MOD files for us and share these files to google disk or any ... ? Because I d't understand what you mean the exact 10 bytes long and what is the difference between For Development Menu 1-6 and For Development Menu 1-7

Use files from dbmode.zip that I provided in another post, but rename file 00078400.597 to 00078380.581. Good luck!

Thanks. By any chance is the filename dependent on firmware version?

Doug, what good is it for? I can't imagine what I would need to change in my camera(s). Maybe, if I had one of those lenses with failing SDM. But then I would prefer to disable the SDM "presence" in the lens itself, not in the camera.

Been there, done that. To disable the SDM in the lens you must put the camera in debug mode so that you can download, modify then upload the lens bios info. At the time I needed to borrow an older K-5 to do it since I couldn't get my newer cameras into debug mode.

I can't remember what else is there, but it might be worth a look.

My one and only SDM lens - the DA* 50-135 after its second SDM failure. It works perfectly fine now. It is one of those special lenses worth the effort!

There was once, for my Bigma, even with AFA set to -10, there was some back (or front, I forget) focus issue. Through debug mode, I was able to set default of -5 and was able to get sharp focus at -12 (camera set to -7). I know, the correct way to fix is to send it to service but since this worked, I was using it like that
 
Interested if any extra function can be added to my K5ii-S . . .
 
What is the debugcode for the K-S2 ?
 
This is such a DANGEROUS thing to mess about with - real danger of turning your camera into a brick .
