Go back to sleep, Phil

I'm glad Phil did not mention it and wish you had not. The site is useless to anyone who ever heard of a camera. There is absolutely no information there worth reading. The links to the D100 do not even work. What a waste of time.
because while you were not, Steve was:

posting new info on all three new Nikons, and

a complete review of the D100.

Hi Mike, Phil and all,

I was never under the impression that Phil and Steve were competitors trying to outdo one another, in terms of reviews etc. It has always seemed that they had a co-operative relationship sharing links and news of each other's reviews etc. I have always this to be a really terrific thing and a service to all of us who visit these two wonderful sites. I feel that getting baited and sucked into this "non-controversy" is really counterproductive and cheapens somewhat the truth of what is... both Phil and Steve have the best digital photography web-sites in the world, and both have developed into masters of their reviewing crafts. (which only benefits all of us!!!) Thanks always to both of them and their wonderful sites! Curt
Mike... yawn, who cares????

Nigel,

Thank you. I hoped that there was at least one other person out there with a good sense of humor. But, please take care, there are many, many, folks that lack that talent, are not able to appreciate, and strike back in maner that is lacking in any worth.
This is one of the most entertaining and totally pointless threads
that I read for a long time - keep up the good work!

afraid to clarify his original post and who's trying to make it look funny... I don't buy it looser!

Hariette,

That is to say that many men have paid very high prices so that mean, name-calling, women of no demonstrated worth, are free to speak the trash you spit.

My first post was concerning business. Phil and Steve are each a business. Their purpose is to make a living, probably for a wife and child. To point out that Steve is faster is to say that on that date, he did a better job of operating a business.

Further, I do not like many of the ways Phil has responded to people over the years. He can be, at times, rude and has posted in a manner that this is his Board, and that it is his business, and he will do, as he desires. I have never found Steve to act in that manner.

The words that I used, it has now been shown, were beyond your capability to find the humor contained.

Yes, I do have fun taking a "verbal shot" at Phil. That does not make me a sick person. Phil responded to me by taking his "verbal shot," when he managed to include "Rubbish." It was good: one point for Phil. I did find humor in it.

You, however use words and make accusations that are far more "sick" than about any other person I can remember. Should you be fortunate to have any human relatives, perhaps one will take you for a mental tune up.

Concerning the few that matter, and that have something of value to say: Peter iNova, Tom Hogan, etc., I find that their lack of antagonism demonstrates that they, and what they have to say are valid, and they are the resaon many of us tolereate the Hariettes.

I think all the review sites do well at working together, exchanging links, news, etc., but hey, don't think for one moment that they don't enjoy the sport of it all. Sort of like newspapers getting the scoop on each other, being the first to report news, reviews, etc. I think each player here is very professional. Phil, Steve, and let's not forget Dave at Image Resource! You won't see any of them discrediting each other, but make no mistake about it, each gets a nice high when they scoop the others! Would you really want it any other way? Who says competition is bad? If done tastefully, it can even be entertaining too. And I see nothing wrong with fans and critics taking the stage on occasions. I found this thread to be very entertaining. The originator, Mike, made a instant hit with his subject, "Go back to sleep Phil", funny stuff! Even Phil joined in on the fun!

I'd say this is part of the sport, and sometimes the spectators can become the players too.

Regards!

They exchange links because it is good web business--do you find local camera stores ding the same? Don't think so.

Unfortunately, this is not true. There was a heated enchange not too long ago, with Phil taking some "professional" hits--unwarranted I might add.

Apples and Oranges. The web has always been more friendly then other media's. In fact, there is nothing to compare the Internet to.

I definitely missed any heated exchanges. Care to explain it in greater detail? Is the thread or link still available? I find it verry difficult to believe either Phil, Steve, or Dave would ever exchange any heated dialog, but of course it's possible. After all, we are all human, and another truly unique thing about the Internet is it allows everyone to be a player and heard by potential millions.

Although I don't like trolls and agitators I do enjoy some of the ongoing tussles I've seen here. Jim K, you were involved in a long and witty thread a few months ago that had me laughing more than most comedians ever do. The repartee between the posters was snappy and clever. Long, tedious off topic wrangles about politics are a waste of time and space, but this one was about the weightof the D1x I think or something around then.

---it's apples (Phil) and apples (Dave), and oranges (Wolf camera) and oranges (Cord camera). They are both businesses selling products. The web sites "share" because the consumer will find the other anyway. Not so if you are stuck in a store with a salesman. Plus, they may enjoy it ( I hope so!), but they must make a living, too.

I'm sure web sites like to share, but there is a benefit for everyone by sharing links and cooperating. By doing so you keep a steady flow of traffic back and forth from each related site. Each can pick up their own unique traffic and therefore contribute new visitors in to the flow of traffic. It's a win-win situation for like minded web sites and for the surfers. You don't see stores doing anything like that because they are more like a black widow spider and once they have you trapped in their web, there is absolutely no sharing : )

Jim K

I certainly do not expect a reply, but it is these sites which got me into photography and now on to my 4th camera in about 4 months.

I try to buy from sponsors when there are sponsors. I am in publishing and used to work for Ziff-Davis. Sometimes the editorial was truthful but not flattering to the advertisers. Credibility is the key.

I went to the best camera store in Houston. We talked about the reviews--and they are waiting to hear what Phil has to say because they feel he is thorough and impartial.

Pretty keen endorsement. Sure, it is frustrating not to know more of the 5700--especially since I will likely buy a 707 and even a 7i before I am fully up to speed. My only real complaint about this whole camera buying

thing. If you arrre reading, Phil, start a new business. Camera testing or camera leasing--or a store where you pay like Kinko's to use the latest cameras before spending.

Kinko's-are you listening? It would save camera manufacturers and retailers so much in returned goods. And I, for one, would pay to try them out.

Anyway, I not only appreciate these sites for the management folks, but for the usual intelligence and thoughtfulness of the people who contribute because of a shared interest from all over the world.

Thanks.
Jack.

US price of Kodak DCS-720X has been reduced by $2,000.

To read such information while it is new, read Rob Galbraith.

Looks like Kodak knows where to inform folks who don't want to know what camera should I buy for $300, week after week, after week, after ....
