Short version: It's a new free web-based email product from Google where the user is able to use up to 1Gb of storage. It's still in beta test, so invitations are the way to go if you fancy trying the service pre public go live. Downside is some public outcry over privacy issues (the system searches your emails and tailors ads. based on what is found).

Well, I'm all out of invites. First four or five people that posted got the invites. If you are one of those that got one and is given invites by google in future, please do the same as I did. Because then you're giving it out to people who really need it and get something fun in return.
