GFX100RF digital crop: aargh

Fingers 🤞 100Rf body design without lens and without focal jpeg crop lever, whilst keeping jpeg aspect crop dial, gets made into an interchangable lens Gfx (with ibis) even more a XA / XM style Gfx with no evf, option to clip on tilt swivel evf.

Easily my favourite body design from all the Gfxes.

Ps. Bet Sony brings out Rx1Rmk3 with 61MP sensor + a dedicated button for crops.
Haha, I would like to see GFX with crop lever and no aspect dial, EVF in the corner is a must😂
Fuji will make one for you one for me. 😹
And if Hasselblad releases something like the GFX100RF, I'm willing to pay triple the price.
Rich people forum alert!
No😃, just a fan of the Hasselblad color. Fuji always requires me to do some extra steps in post-processing, especially to kill the toxic green color.

I totally get it. I noticed the same issue (i.e., can't use this as a 35mm full frame camera equivalent due to reset on power on/off).

I had a suggestion - to let the camera go into sleep mode instead of turning it off. But it turns out, sleep mode also resets the teleconverter crop upon wake as well.

Well. But maybe you can train your muscle memory to flick the crop lever right upon turning on the GFX100RF. Not ideal but maybe this will work well enough.

In the meantime if you can find someone to hack the firmware to make updates, I'd happily pay for half whatever it costs cuz there are a few changes I'd like myself (e.g., like a 43mm equivalent crop option).

They (the camera manufacturers) never give us exactly the camera we want, even if it's so damn close...

Not an answer to your question, but I note that for a 35mm equivalent angle of view, my A7Riv offers the same MP count. Fitted with my Samyang 35mm f/1.8, the cameras are a similar size. The Samyang lens sticks out more but has a two and 1/3rd stop wider aperture. If I wanted to equalise the weight, I could opt for the 35mm f/2.8 which also removes the sticky-outness while still offering an extra stop of light. The Sony has IBIS as well.

This is off no particular interest if you are not also a Sony user, but if you are and are interested in the RF and, intend to shoot the RF as a 35mm crop, it's worth bearing in mind.
A7RIV is a painfully better deal as high resolution solution, I have to say the best camera for stills, portrait, landscapes when price matters. Huge amount of lens selection (not if you after an excellent 28mm lens). Impossible go wrong with that camera, I liked it even more than my A7RV with reddish colors and bulky foldable screen.

The Sony-Zeiss 35 f2.8 is a 24MP lens, it can't handle 60MP. 24G or 40G is the best high resolution option, I almost bought a 40G for my A7RV, but I wanted rangefinder style, minimalist camera so ended up with GFX100RF. It's not the rational decision, this camera with a brand new, just released price is far worse financial decision than a "outdated" A7RIV. But Sony's style, image rendering, shooting experience is not for everyone's taste.

My 100RF arrived yesterday, and I’ve just discovered something I wasn’t expecting.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I can see no way of getting the camera to remember the digital crop setting when it’s turned off.
Have you tried setting the crop as you want it, then saving the settings to a custom slot (I assume the RF has those).

When you recall that custom setting, does the camera set the crop to the way you had it? Theoretically it should.

This feels like something that can/will be addressed in firmware. Simply a menu item to set the default crop would work. Seems like a feature that would add value and be simple to introduce. Can’t see a way to implement currently

I have multiple out of focus shots on my Z8 of one or both of my feet because the Z8 remembered I had a two second delay turned on and forgot to turn it off before I switched the camera off to move.

Either option has its pros and warts.

I guess I would rather the camera return to a default value when is turned on. I just checked the camera remember the aspect ratio when set by the dial when you turn it back on which I would expect. How ever that is to be expected and not a big deal since one can see with it is prior to turning the camera on. The crop is set by a S/W flag which is forgotten.

Equally I have some shaky tripod shots where I forgot that Fujis default to turning it off 🙂

Indeed, so it’s nice to have the option—as with the self timer—to cover both preferences.

Yes, clearly anything that’s on a “hard” dial has to be retained. But other Fuji cameras remember the aspect ratio crop through a power cycle. And to be honest pretty much every other setting. In fact I’m struggling to think of one that’s always reset.

+1

Since it is easy to accidentally change the digital zoom setting, It may be good that it gets reset. I do not think that using RF with permanently enabled zoom makes sense or is typical.

Permanently would be unusual. But this is simply about the camera being in the state you last left it when it’s turned back on. Like every other setting.
