But I have been printing a number of publications with commercial printer at 300ppi. In fact, 150ppi is the minimum (not the maximum) resolution most commercial printers will accept your design. You can verify what I said by searching the internet for any commercial printer or any digital designer website.I've had more than 1 art teacher at my school tell me that 150 dpi is
the max most digital printers print at. I always thought 300dpi was
the golden rule.

never say never
Photo printing for commercial, which require higher quality and sharpness than magazine, are usually printed at 450ppi or more.
And if you look for any digital printer specs nowaday, they will tell you their resolution is at least 1200dpi for BW printing and 600dpi for colour printing. But their dpi is often misleading for marketing purpose. They use a few dots of different colors to create a pixel.
If you need further verification, you can get photoshop installed and create a new file by choosing any standard printing size. Photoshop will set the resolution and dimension for you.
