Had family visiting tonight...took some photos and put my X-T3 with the Nissin i40 on the carpet...which has a nice deep pile. The camera obviously wasn't balanced right and slowly tipped onto it's back....and this was the result. You couldn't even class this as a fall, it basically laid down onto a soft carpet in slow motion.

This is the second i40 to break in the same place... it's where the screws holding the shoe attachment to the main body of the flash are..the plastic is ultra thin. The first one to break did take a little bit of a 'dunt', so I didn't overly blame the flash...but this latest one really shouldn't have broken....

So the moral of the story is if you have a Nissin i40, they are brilliant little flashes, but you'd better handle them with kids gloves, because they are really fragile...

Cheers, Bob.

Ouch! At least the flash broke and not your camera or lens

My i40 also broke like this, but the camera fell from strap height when one side of said strap let go while around my neck. So I didn't really blame the flash too much, I mean my X-H1 did land on concrete. I think my H1 dented their floor ;-)

Have a feeling your Nissin i40 accumulated structural stress before the final straw. I had the same flash for several years before switching to Godox. Luckily mine never broke. Guess your 3rd copy try reinforce with tape or something before it breaks?

Don't think there will be a third one...got my eye on a Goddox. My 2 super glued i40's will act as off-camera flashes, where they don't have to move around much 😁👍

I think I would have been really unhappy Morris if either had broke by essentially over balancing on a carpet and coming to rest on a plush carpet 🤔😂

One of my Godox flashes came apart, too. The metal plate on the shoe is held into the flash with four teeny tiny screws, and they strip out pretty easy on my TT685ii. I would be interested in finding the repair parts for it, can't imagine that plate and four screws would be super expensive, and at least it's easy to service.

Ouch.

I loved the Nissin i40 for its retro dials. I remember how it looked like a step up from the Fujifilm EF-20 I bought for my X-100S.

I think it is time to give up on Nissin unfortunately. It should not have broken with such little handling.

I also switched to Godox.

Sometimes a few drops of epoxy or crazy glue can do miracles
