Format or Delete?

Another point - I'm not 100% sure, but I think that format actually
erases data, and the delete option just marks files as 'ready to be
written over'. So in the event that you've actually deleted some
files by mistake you might actually be able to recover them if you
used the delete option, but not if you've chosen to use format.

Anyone else know anything about this?
I think the Fuji actually over writes the data even during deletion.

If you have deleted or formatted your card in a FUJI camera, we can
not help you. Fuji cameras write data over everything during a
delete/format
So what's the difference? Any why does Fuji cameras have both delete and format? I am sure there must be a difference, otherwise, it would have been pointless to include an extra option!

I assume Delete only overwrites the space taken by the image / images and not unused space (so again I assume this must be quicker and use less power). Format overwrites the whole memory pack.

Call me paranoid - I never delete from the camera until the images are copied to another computer or onto CD-R ! It's not just the chance of a HD failure that worries me, but more an accidental 'user error' leading to deletion.

As far as Hard Drives are concerned, I never assume that the PC will power up the next time you boot & photos are too important to me.

I even make copies of my backups :)
