I love the auto focus bracketing function on my XT30 but I'm having trouble getting it to work properly when using macro extension tubes - it will perhaps take 2 or 3 shots but not the 20 shots I'd programmed it for. Am I doing something wrong or is this to be expected with extension tubes?

Would the auto focus bracketting work as normally expected if I was using a dedicated macro lens rather than extension tubes? Which macro lens would folks recommend?

Many thanks

Hi

I am sorry but I cannot comment on your main question, bracketing with macro extension tubes.

I've done more macro bracketing recently, I have successfully used different lenses for macro bracketing, namely, the Viltrox 13/1.4, the XF 8-16/2.8, and the XF 30/2.8. Examples are on my 500px account. Also a few recent ones with the XF 30/2.8.

Here's a good how to: Yet another post on how to do automatic focus bracketing

If one does it regularly, the menu process that appears weird when using it for the first time or rarely is just fine. Just remember to not hit "OK" after setting focus point B. You can even directly hit the shutter button instead of the "back" button.

I always rely on the auto step width. Always good. Very happy.

Since I do auto bracketing, I use my brillant Laowa 65/2.8 mainly for single frame shots. Before I did manual stacking. But the auto bracketing is just so convenient....

Good luck.
