Flash HELP! Wireless not working!?

HI all I just obtained the Sony HVL-F43M flash unit for my Sony A7.

I have gone through the steps numerous times according to the instruction manual to activate wireless flash and it is not working.

Attach the flash unit, Select wireless flash on the camera settings, WL appears on the flash unit.

Un mount the flash , It has a blinking red light on the front and when I trigger a shot it doesn't fire off.

What am I missing here?

Absolutely. 2004's Konica Minolta dImage A2 allowed the pop up flash to wirelessly trigger their flashes. Sony purchased Konica Minolta's camera and flash knowhow but somehow, such an useful feature as this requires another Sony flash on E-mount.

Sony cameras with a pop-up flash can trigger off-camera Sony flashes using the pulse from the pop-up flash.

The NEX-7 has a pop-up flash that can't wirelessly trigger remote flashes! Ditto for the NEX-6 and A6000.

I had no idea flashes worked this way...

i love the flash I have purchased but would like to know that if I purchased another (to trigger mine wirelessly) is there a way that I could trigger the stand alone flash without allowing the mounted one to go off?

There is no way to do it because you need it to go off to trigger the wireless flash.

Ok now that everybody here realizes that Sony a6000 popup doesn't trigger sony's flash is there any advice on a low cost trigger method to trigger a HVLF43M off camera or any other flash for that matter. Some options in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Yongnuo 560III + the yongnuo rf603ii trigger kit (both canon or nikon versions are OK) . Total cost for everything $90

for off-camera manual flash this is the best/cheapest option. It won't do TTL, just manual, but it's a easy & effective solution.

I have cheap high power Neewer flash with slave mode and the NEX-7 pop up flash can trigger it just fine. I also have the HVL-F60m and it would be nice to have the same slave mode functionality on it without the need for another Sony flash. The Phottix Odin will wirelessly transmit and run the 60M with full TTL. There are options for getting flash off camera but you have to hunt for them.

You can always use a cable... The F20M would probably be your cheapest option beyond that.

If triggering the YN 560 mkIII by RF consider the YN 560TX transmitter instead of RF-603 mkII triggers. The new YN 560TX allows changing power level and zoom head position of remote YN 560 mkIII units from the camera position.

To avoid RF triggers you could also use the a6000 pop up to trigger the YN 560 series optically with the flashes built in optical trigger "S2" setting. This would apply to any flash having a internal optical trigger with digital delay.

Thanks for your reply. I was trying to avoid this cost but for my sanity it is starting to look like the best option. I will have to sneak out in the middle of the night to get it as my husband will have a cow at another purchase regarding this camera. Hahaha. Happy photoing.
