Three days after getting my D70 I set off for Scotland hoping for some good picture-taking conditions. I am really impressed with this camera. Its easy to use and produces some excellent results. All three of these images were taken RAW and then the RAW file was tuned in Nikon Capture before exporting to a TIFF and then jpegged for the web.

Very nice. Did you find the pot of gold? Normally goblins get there before me!

Nicely done. Can you give the exact coordinates where that rainbow ends. There is a pot of gold just waiting for my greedy little hands.

Nice pictures! Only critique is that the roof of the house in the second image merges with the water behind it.

You're off to a nice start! You'll love this camera. I like the first shot and I think the old house pic has real potential with some judicious cropping of the sky and foreground and perhaps a bit of level adjustment to make the house stand out a bit more. To my eye it also looks slightly skewed.

Just curious as to why you exported "to a TIFF and then jpegged for the web"? Are you aware that you can go straight to JPEG in Capture?

Great pictures ! What a start !
  1. 3 is slightly slanted - which you can fix with a little crop - the point is: when holding a new body it is common to cause small slant until one gets used to the new camera. Pay particular attention to the way the camera is held !
Thanks for sharing. These are wonderful pics !

Does the D70 have the viewfinder gridlines custom function like the F80? If so that really helps with keeping things level.

Nice work.

You appear to have a silght tendancy to tilt to the right though.

Yes, all taken with the 18-70 kit lens. I took my 180/2.8 but hardly used it.

I had a G5 before the D70 and I'm still coming to terms with using the software for more than just getting the images from the camera to Photoshop. I have been used to doing all my post processing in Photoshop but Capture seems to offer so much more. Still learning how to fit Capture into my workflow I suppose. Have been scanning MF and LF up to now.

Maybe. I don't think its noticable. I think the lay of the land is a little confusing. Still, I can always play about with rotate.

Pity the camera doesn't measure for any offset from level and warn you. And, of course its not recorded in the EXIF data.
