First happy result with external flash

Oh, I hope I didn't come off as cruel. Just having a little fun with Mike's pet. In fact, Furby's "Hey, what are YOU lookin' at?" glare is starting to grow on me. And I never mentioned it, but I also think the picture is very well done.

Got a Vivitar 283 for my 602 a couple weeks back after reading
through many threads here and viewing lots of samples taken with
this flash. (Thanks everyone!) This is my first time ever using an
external flash and here's the first pic I produced with it that I'm
happy with.

Any comments/suggestions for improvements would be welcome.



Manual mode, s1/200, F7, ISO 200, Custom White Balance, 3MPF,
normal sharpening. Upped the contrast and slight unsharp mask in
Photoshop.

Getting this flash was also great for me because it has made it
much easier to get some nice shots of our indoor kitty who makes a
great subject for a photo

Great shot of a very unusual looking creature.
Would have to agree with the others, that it is a classic!
Then again the same could be said for the Gremlins movie.
Although a little bit cruel, I have to thank BigWaveDave for his
earlier comments............. I haven't laughed so much in ages.

I think you had the flash set too strong...you've burnt all the hair off that poor cat! "Look what you've done to Mr. Bigglesworth!!!"

I must admit I've become quite fond of looking at the little creature too.
Even worse is that my wife now wants to get one.£££££££££££

Think I will have to ask Mike if I can get a down load of the picture and put it in a frame for her, at least it would be alot cheaper.
With a face like that , its bound to scare the mice away.
If not the Postman, Milkman, and all the kids in the neighbourhood too.

What a wonderful picture. How great that she is willing to model so well. Mine want to leave when I get the camera out. The eyes came out great. Blue eyed cats are sometimes difficult.

Well, lucky or not — that is a wonderful portrait, why is he-she-it
looking so worried?

She almost always looks like that unless she is actively being petted and even then she can look stressed out. My girlfriend adopted her when she was rescued at about the age of 2 from a very abusive scenario where some people had stolen her and some other sphynxes to try and breed them for profit. She still runs and hides when somoene walks across the kithen floor wearing boots and this is 6 years later. It takes a lot for her to build trust in someone but once she does you cannot get rid of her!

Do try to remember how that picture was taken - it is a classic.

I'm definitely going to try. I'm quite happy with it. Thanks.

Will do! You are one of the very few people who notice that right off. Most people just notice that she looks very strange and don't realize she is wiskerless until you point it out.

I would have to agree with you there. Although I apreciate that some people came to Fisby's defense on this matter I have to admit that her looks are often a source for great hilarity and I also found BigWaveDave's reaction extremely funny. After living with her for years you begin to take her looks for granted but every once in a while you look at her and just burst out laughing again.

Actually, she always wants to leave when I point the camera at her as well. I got lucky because she seemed very intrigued by the flash going off and I finally got her to look straight at the lens and hold still!

I'm really nearly delirious, that you are looking after that little Dawg/Cat/Thing.

Good luck with your photography, and do keep looking after odd/strange non-humans.

Even if they are only ones that your girlfiend has rescued — particularly those ones, I guess.

Please can you tell us on which beach she found the little chap?

I only ask, because I'm looking for a picturesque beach of my own, on which to wander, until gathered up by an intelligent and nubile stranger.
