Hi all,

Well after a couple of weeks lurking and learning as many hints from this site as I can, my D50 finally arrived 2 days ago so I thought I would post my first macros for C&C. Any comments welcome - harsh as you like - I need to learn !!

All taken with reversed 50mm 1.8.

Thanks

Iain

wow ! - yes that first one didn't go on first by chance....

...there's only one winner....Well done

i will agree with the crowd that the first one is the big winner. however i think the last one of the bee was pretty good too - maybe next time try to catch the little fella in a different angle if possible. (i know its down right difficult to catch these guys while in action - but i see you're getting a good start.)

macro photography is so challenging - which is probably why it's my favorite aspect of photography. look forward to seeing more from work from you. thanks for sharing.

I looked at them again thinking everyone wasn't giving enough credit to the other shots, but upon giving it a second look I gotta' agree with the others... the first shot is the standout.

I'm a TOTAL NOOB to the d50, so could you please forgive my ignorance and answer this... do you litterally mean you turned the 50 1.8 around and shot through the "wrong" side of the lens? If so then how did you attach it, etc?

If that's a workable practice for shots like this then what lenses could do that best? Is this lens an anamoly or can I flip the 85 1.8 around and get crazy macro?

All my stuff is due to arrive today... otherwise I'd be playing and flipping already... please elaborate a bit for the new guys like myself. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, and thankyou to Norma for noticing the bee - that was my second favourite - especially as he was being extremely awkward settling on a flower about an inch from the floor ha ha !! ;0)

MattinSTL you are gonna love your new camera! - I have only had mine 2 days and cannot put it down!! With regards to reversing the lens, yes you literally attach the lens backwards - Nikon do an adaptor - BR-2a for this very purpose - look it up on here - thats where I found out about it. Not sure about other lenses, but I went for the 50mm 1.8 after seeing recommendations from the guys on this site.

As for more macro power - I have just had a set of extension tubes delivered today to get me even closer - hopefully will put a couple of shots on later....

nice shot, but your sensor is abit dusty.

Apart from dedicated macro lenses, I'm a bit ignorant to macro photography.

How do you convert a 50mm into a macro lens? What sort of reverse lens? And what does it do exactly?

Cheers,
Steve.

The DOF is a pain, but workable - although I have deleted far more than i have kept!

I have just been playing with the 50mm reversed on extension tubes - now THAT is a limited DOF !! lol

Just playing with the 50mm reversed on extension tubes. Not the best shots, but I am enjoying my new camera so much that I thought I would share ;o)

And who would have thought that aphids were cute ;o)

Thanks

Iain

have you noticed your senson dust? that's kind of annoying to my inexperienced eye.

These are al good. The bee photo is good: it's hard to get a good shot of these because they move so fast. The Dolichopid fly (the green fly before the bee) is nearly there but the insect is too small, I think. The hoverfly is absolutely outstanding. That's a truly great photo: nice one.
