Well after a couple of weeks lurking and learning as many hints from this site as I can, my D50 finally arrived 2 days ago so I thought I would post my first macros for C&C. Any comments welcome - harsh as you like - I need to learn !!
The first one is fabulous. It's very sharp and detailed and the compostition is great. In fact, it's so good it kinda makes the rest pale in comparison. I really do like the first one very much though.

i will agree with the crowd that the first one is the big winner. however i think the last one of the bee was pretty good too - maybe next time try to catch the little fella in a different angle if possible. (i know its down right difficult to catch these guys while in action - but i see you're getting a good start.)
macro photography is so challenging - which is probably why it's my favorite aspect of photography. look forward to seeing more from work from you. thanks for sharing.
I looked at them again thinking everyone wasn't giving enough credit to the other shots, but upon giving it a second look I gotta' agree with the others... the first shot is the standout.
I'm a TOTAL NOOB to the d50, so could you please forgive my ignorance and answer this... do you litterally mean you turned the 50 1.8 around and shot through the "wrong" side of the lens? If so then how did you attach it, etc?
If that's a workable practice for shots like this then what lenses could do that best? Is this lens an anamoly or can I flip the 85 1.8 around and get crazy macro?
All my stuff is due to arrive today... otherwise I'd be playing and flipping already... please elaborate a bit for the new guys like myself. Thanks.
Thanks everyone for your kind comments, and thankyou to Norma for noticing the bee - that was my second favourite - especially as he was being extremely awkward settling on a flower about an inch from the floor ha ha !! ;0)
MattinSTL you are gonna love your new camera! - I have only had mine 2 days and cannot put it down!! With regards to reversing the lens, yes you literally attach the lens backwards - Nikon do an adaptor - BR-2a for this very purpose - look it up on here - thats where I found out about it. Not sure about other lenses, but I went for the 50mm 1.8 after seeing recommendations from the guys on this site.
As for more macro power - I have just had a set of extension tubes delivered today to get me even closer - hopefully will put a couple of shots on later....
These are al good. The bee photo is good: it's hard to get a good shot of these because they move so fast. The Dolichopid fly (the green fly before the bee) is nearly there but the insect is too small, I think. The hoverfly is absolutely outstanding. That's a truly great photo: nice one.
