One of the niggles with the Z6ii is they removed the pop-up fill flash. As a travel photographer, this is a feature I use all the time!
My solution was to buy a used SB400. This is a great little flash. I can stick it in my pocket, or just carry it on the camera. It weighs very little, has a tilt head built-in to the front and a GN of 35. It does not support HSS and does not have zoom-flash. Occasionally, the lack of zoom-flash means I don't get the result I want. But mostly it's great.
I've been pondering an alternative. The two nearest possibilities for size and enhanced features are the Nissin i40 or the Godox V350n.
By a coincidence of circumstances, I currently have all three of these but maybe the Nissin and the Godox will get returned. Pictures of all three are attached. In summary:
SB400: smallest, lightest, tiltable, 2xAA's, no HSS, no zoom-flash, GN 35.
Nissin i40: next smallest. Still quite small, tilt/pan, 4xAA's, supports HSS with firmware v18:11, zoom-flash, slave mode, GN 40. This is my preferred choice but the one I bought from MPB is v16:10. HSS doesn't work and if you have that selected on the camera it behaves erratically. I can't find one with v18:11 and I can't find anywhere to get it reflashed.
Godox V350n: quite big compared with the SB400. Not really pocketable. Tilt/pan, LI-ION, supports HSS, zoom-flash, slave mode, strobe capability, GN 35. If this was the same size as the i40 I would choose it. But it's really too big to carry, or have on the camera whilst travelling. I guess I could live with it if I really can't find a compatible i40.
I hope you find this useful!
