I'm trying to add a few extra details to the E-M5 preview, to clear up uncertainties.

Are there any specific questions that I need to cover (I can't promise to address everything as I only have a pre-production camera, so can't comment on performance).

Brightness (nits) and contrast ratio for the tilting OLED panel? And can we presume that the panel is not multi-touch sensitive for zooming in or out of images on playback?

I think the BIG question for many on here is whether the sensor is the same as the GH2 or not.

Hi,

Thank for the very nice and well done preview so far. I would be interested to know a bit more about the two new exposure mode "live bulb" and "live time". It seems it is quite hard to have information about it in other preview. Here is the link on what I jsut wrote in an other post:

Other than that, any info on the sensor used would be great!

Thanks.

Simon

Yes please, can you clarify things concerning the sensor ?

The specifications are incomplete, can you tell the maximum number of pixels we can get for each format, rather than only for 4:3 ratio. This is to clear up things concerning the assertion of Kirk Tuck at visual science lab, who seems to imply that the OM-D has a multi aspect sensor like the GH2 ?

Also concerning the four ways controller, which functions are implemented on the left and up arrows, you indicated focs area on the left, but what is on the up arrow ? Exposure compensation ? Or I hope ISO ?

Thanks in advance !

I think the BIG question for many on here is whether the sensor is the same as the GH2 or not.
It's not big at all. You know the answer if you just compare the specs. It's not the same sensor used on the GH2. It's the sensor from the G3 and GX1.

the GH2 has over 18 megapixels because it is a true multi-aspect sensor. The sensor used in the G3, GX1 and this new Olympus is 16 megapixels and does not have a multi-aspect sensor. They achieve the other ratios (16:9 and 3:2) by simply cropping the sensor down.

Not that important, but is there panorama similar to Sony's or Fuji's x100 where it auto stitch photos into a panorama.

The "what sensor" argument is making people here nutty, so if you have any insight into its origin and specs vs those on the market already today, that would be a welcome inclusion...and, is the ADC on the sensor or off....

Video specifications are also being argued about (I personally don't care what they are, but they seem to be igniting some controversy here).

Impressions about the viewfinder, if you have been able to use it...compared to say the one in the GH2?

How it sits in the hand; in other words, how easy or hard is it to use the dials without hitting other buttons (especially if you have smaller hands?) Maybe put in a photo of it in hand vs the EP3?

That's all I can think of at the moment.....Hopefully you will be able to get a production model soon that they let you post photos from....

OK, the BIG question I have, is whether the sensor is the same as the G3 and GX1 or not.

Not according multiple sources who are quoting from Olympus reps.

Can you try it with a 4/3rds lens (via the 4/3rds adapter) and tell us whether it focuses significantly faster than the Pen?
I've only got a Panasonic MA1 adapter and a pre-production camera. With the 12-60mm it's better than I expected but still not super-fast. Comfortably under a second in most cases, which is good for PDAF-designed lens on CDAF body but still a work-around. However this is a far-from-optimal combination and may not represent final results, so don't read too much into that.
Also, anything you can tell us on the sensor used, comparative IQ to the GX1?
I'm afraid that's exactly the kind of question I can't answer.

Since the GH2's sensor is over 18 megapixels and this one is 16, it's a pretty safe assumption this is NOT the same sensor as the GH2.

I'd like to see a picture of the bottom of the camera. ideally how the battery compartment door opens/closes/type of latch to obtain weather sealing.

There's no reason to believe it is. Our conversations with Olympus suggested not and it certainly doesn't appear to be oversized.

Can the camera show live view without "slide show behaviour" at the fastest fps with or without AF working?
