Faststone Exif after ON1 export

I am having a weird exif issue between these two products.

After an ON1 edit and export, Fastsone doesn't show the camera make / model nor lens info. All other camera settings data is OK.

After spending ages looking around in ON1 to try and work out why (the metadata export options are selected) I checked the file properties and also with exiftool and the camera and lens info was there.

However if I submit a pic to dpreview, it is missing there too - I much prefer that info is available to those who view my pics.

Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour? Some odd text format change perhaps?

This is a known metadata issue with ON1 Photo RAW exports, along with some others.

They are, but something else is still missing that some software wants to see.

Yep.
Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour?
Definitely. There are previous discussions about it.

Haven't been figured out. Someone should contact ON1 support.

Thanks.

I read the linked thread and noticed your comments. I had a look and CreateDate is missing but there is a field labelled Date/Time Created. I decided to compare the two files' exif side by side. At first glance it appears ON1 has included a whole bunch of fields and left out others. I haven't time to check further atm but will also check the raw tomorrow.

I wonder if there is a tool that could copy the complete exif from one file and replace the contents of another...?

Thanks.

I use ExifTool or ExifTool GUI when I need to fix such things. The screen shot I showed in that thread is from ExifTool GUI.

If you're interested, I have found the way around the problem. Information about camera make/model and lens included into photo title during export. Maybe it is not the elegant way, but better than nothing. Samples in gallery.

I installed ExifTool Gui and used Import to copy the original jpg exif over the ON1 jpg.

It now shows OK in FastStone so I assume it will work on DPR.

I will go through and compare them side by side to double check.

It appears that ON1 is putting certain data in different categories. E.g. the original jpg had the camera model info in EXIF:IFD0 and in the ON1 jpg it was in EXIF:ExifIFD - sure to confuse most software...

Good sleuthing. Interestingly, my ancient version of Photoshop has no trouble reading the make, model and lens in Photo RAW exports, but PhotoLab can't read the lens ID. Metadata 'standards' are kind of non-standard.
