Faces behind the camera (cont'd)..

Trying again,

If this works thanks Barry.....

Let's see now......

Ooops! sorry its so big, the site said if it was too big it would
shrink it.
Hi Paul,

Good to see you here on the MTF, with a little help from some friends along the way! ;o)

It is also good to see you were able to follow my guide to using Photobucket. AFAIK, Photobucket only resizes your pic if the file size is over 250kB. I don't know whether it changes the dimensions in pixels, or just compresses your original to less than 250kB as I have not looked into it. However, it is always best to consciously choose the dimensions yourself. In PhotoShop Elements 2, for example, choose Resize from the Image menu and choose the dimensions you want in pixels. As you will have seen, the dpreview message box is 480 pixels wide, so anything wider than that will have to expand to be fully seen. Depending on the pic, 480 may be wide enough, and it would not be common to need to post a pic in a thread at more than 800 wide. I usually choose 480, 600 or 640 wide (640 x 480 is still a 4:3 ratio).

Once your Photobucket pic link is posted in a dpreview message, you can change the original pic in PhotoBucket by deleting the one there and uploading another one of the same name to the same gallery. That new pic then appears whenever someone looks at your dpreview message. You may have to refresh your browser initially to see the new pic in your message.

To my surprise I noticed I failed to include my incredibly handsome
selfportrait in the original thread.

To make up for it, here it is:

Not exactly Mr Universe, but I am sure if there is some sort of
halfblind primitive lifeform on Pluto they might not be too apalled.

See ya,

Almer
Hi Almer,

I enjoy seeing this different way you have chosen to reveal yourself. BTW, what kind of equipment are you using to produce that kind of wide angle and vignetting?

Hello John

I also have enjoyed your photos and I have also enjoyed the repartee you have with so many of the members of the forum.

I hope you have been back to Surfers since your early 20's there is loads to photograph there now. Also glad that you have enjoyed the PNG shots I have had a lot of fun taking them.

Unfortunately because of the appalling weather we have had here over the last couple of months the job has blown out considerably, so I won't be home as early as I had hoped. If you would like to see more of my PNG photos and a few others my website address is http://www.pbase.com/rl
Kind regards
Rene
Hi Rene,

Getting closer to returning to Oz, right? I've enjoyed seeing your
PNG shots along the way. I also enjoy seeing your Surfers setting.
Pretty much unmistakable and reminds me of my yonger days (early
20s) when I lived a lot closer to there. Oh well, life is till good.

All the best,
John

Hello People...

I haven't really helped anyone in this forum... but quite a few of you can see now the face of a very grateful guy indeed... It is great to see all of you !

Sorry about the pic... not very good, and not with Minolta... I make a point of not using my A1 to take my picture for fear of SIEF ... (shock induced equipment failure)
But at least you can see in this one how I feel about my A1...

Cheers everyone...
Steve

I really doubt anyone on the MTF could care less what camera you used, as long as you're having fun and taking photos. My shots were taken with a Canon, as that's what I had before I got the A1. No one here seems that up themselves with camera brand - gentle ribbing aside.

There are no limitations, only challenges - me (unless someone else said it first).

I'll have a go at that next time.

Hey Rene,

What you doing in Papua New Guinea? ( i mean, I'm assuming there is a reason someome has gone to a village there :) )

Nice pictures though. Thx!

Barry, great thread.
It really is wonderful to put a face to a name. There have been
quite a few people who have given me advice on my posted photos and
I must say all advice has been much appreciated. Here are a couple
of my photos.

Taken last year on my balcony in Surfers Paradise. Sorry guys I
can't compete with the beer shots, but we do make some beautiful
wines down here.

We are currently living in Papua New Guinea, this photos was taken
last week in a local village.
Thanks again everyone for a great forum.

Rene

G'day Rene,

Thanks for the link. Some good shots there and even some familiar ones. I included some comments against your wonderful sunset shot at the start of your Surfers gallery. I haven't been back to Surfers for a good while now, but my wife and I have got to travel a bit and we lived in the UK and USA for nearly 6 years all up.

I looked a bit further and what did I find in the PNG gallery but the real description of one of your 'Alone' entries? Our secret, right?! LOL

I hope the weather doesn't interfere too much with your attempts to finish whatever you need to do in PNG and get back to Oz in a reasonable timeframe. I haven't visited PNG, but I am well aware from others what you mean by it not being a place for the faint of heart. Yikes! :o(

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you and your work around the MTF. :o)

OK, This is my first attempt at posting a photo.
Can you guess which one is me?

BTW, This was shot with an OLY C3020z. When I get back home I will post some from my NEW and WONDERFUL and AMAZING Minolta DiMage A!.

Yeah, The one in the middle is named Jack! :)

Thanks for the help on how to do this. Your "tutorial" was right on target. No problem.

Gotta get a catchy tag line.

I hope I do not come late, but finally I found some photos from me (taken by friends). I prefer to make the photos instead of being on the photo.

After a long walk getting some energy - last year

This weekend on the snow - trying to do Snowboard

I turned 21 2 weeks ago, and I happen to know that there is someone even younger here. I don't know his age, but I remember seeing his picture in the first half of this thread...he appeared to be between 16-18...but I could be wrong. Either way, you lose :)

Hi John,

I used a 0.25x superfisheye on my Dimage7. Fixed the camera on the tripod and bend over to release the shutter by hand.
The fisheye is a Soligor, very similar to the one from Phoenix (USA brand).

Almer

Oh, and the vignetting is the result of postprocessing. With the fisheye at full blast you get a circular picture. I just changed the black background to blue with, I guess, 25 to 50 pixels width' of feathering.

That should complete my answer.

Almer
