When I travel with the 18-200 (effective 27-300 on D300), I tend to shoot a lot at full zoom. I like subject isolation and I like the bokeh I get from that lens ...I also suspect that if, for example, I had a hypothetical 27-270 lens on the Nikon, I'd be using the long end of the lens a lot more, just because I could.
I agree ... one of my great frustrations when traveling is missing a shot because I don;t have time ... now I have the D700 and will probable travel with the Tammy 28-75 and 70-300VR instead of carrying the 180299 and the D300 ... I can already feel the annoyance, which may well tip me to carrying only the F70EXR ...Currently the need to switch lenses means I either compose differently (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, equipment limitations can sometimes actually force you to think more about what you're doing) or use the "foot zoom" (although that's not always an option).
